Hi, I am Gary Adkins, 58 years young, and live in Yuba City, California, a small farming town 2.5 hours north of San Francisco with my beautiful wife Tracy. We are blessed to have 3 awesome kids and an awesome daughter in law, along with the real bosses of the house, a mottled Dachshund and Yellow Lab, who happens to be afraid of ducks!
Tracy and I own a couple of electrical-telecommunications contracting businesses, FRC Inc and MTM inc, and mainly work for VZW to help build and maintain cell sites in Northern California and Nevada.
Although I still hunt with a rifle, mainly late season mule deer, my personal favorite game animal, I am a stick bowhunter at heart. That is how I first learned to hunt growing up with my dad, uncles and cousins, it was a great family affair for us and I have so many fond memories of that time in the early 70's. Our northern Sierra Nevada mountains still teemed with blacktail deer then, and although there are currently enough to hunt, the numbers of past will sadly never return. Our forest's are now managed to maximize timber production, not wildlife habitat.
During the SA trip we took earlier this month with 2 of our best friends, Rik and Joellen Jimerson, I was fortunate to take a beautiful Kudu, a gorgeous Sable, a nifty Impala and handsome Bushbuck with my Black Widow recurve. Tracy was very happy to take her favorite, a Warthog, and also a great Kudu with her .270. And to add icing to our cake, Rik was able to take a huge old warrior of a Kudu and nice Wildebeest, he has gone from someone who originally just wanted to go and see Africa, to now officially having the bug!
We had an awesome time at Select Safaris in the Waterberg mountains near Lephalale, and our host's and now friends Jan, Susan and Bart are truly wonderful people, and we will be returning to SA in june of 17 for a Cape Buffalo with the bow!
