As some here are aware, I was a very liberal person until this election. Many of my liberal friends have been giving me a lot of flack for switching parties, especially to support Trump. I am not afraid to admit that I have supported and donated to both Clintons in the past. The reason why I am switching my support to Trump is not because I despise Hillary, but what I fear the Democratic Party is turning into.

The rise of Bernie Sanders support within the Democratic Party is a harbinger of a dramatic shift in leftist philosophy. Gone it seems are the calls for social acceptance of all people, empathy for the disadvantaged, and positive liberty that helps the neediest Americans. Instead, the millennials are turning the party into the party of socialist handouts. And I do not see the Democratic Party returning to what it once was.

That brings me to my support for Trump over Clinton. While I generally support most of Clinton's ideas, especially concerning foreign policy and welfare, the recent shift in the party has caused her to compromise many of her values. But I do not see her becoming a socialist president simply because she is acting like one during the primaries. What I fear is the influence Bernie supporters are having on the Democratic platform. While everyone knows (including Bernie) that he will not win the nomination, Bernie is using his support to help with the socialist hijacking of the Democratic Party. Even though Hillary is more of a conservative democrat on most issues, she is not the problem...it is the new liberal socialist movement within the party that is a threat to America.

I see Trump as the only way to save America from turning into another European nanny state. Trump stands up for strong borders and Second Amendment rights. He will also renegotiate our deals and bring government spending under control. Do not think for a second that establishment republicans are any better than democrats when it comes to budgets. I am hoping for another outsider like Carl Icahn, whom Trump has offered the position of Secretary of the Treasury, to come in and decimate the outrageous spending and waste that is destroying our country.

I do apologize for my rant, but I feel the need to express why I, a self-proclaimed liberal, is switching to the Republican Party in support of Trump. I hope that the so-called conservatives that have jumped onto the #NeverTrump bandwagon will see the monumental danger posed to this nation by not supporting Trump an and letting the Democrats take control of the government. I have been called a blue dog in the past, but even I can see that Trump is our only hope to save this country.

Saul no need to apologize, I am life long Republican but at times do not recognize the party that I associate with. It amazes me that in a generation on college campuses we went from Animal house to safe spaces. That people who said the debt was too high at 6 trillion now don't blink at eye at 20. That Republicans run on the platform of stopping Obama's agenda once elected say it is too hard and that they don't have the political capital to stop him. I like Trump because for he doesn't say this is a Republican idea or a Democrat idea, just this what America needs, which is why both parties are terrified because business as usual will change. If the Democrats and Republicans spent 1/2 of their time actually trying to solve issues and fix things as they do condemning or analyzing Trump, we would have never gotten to this point in the first place. Rant over.

@Saul I think this is one of the most thought provoking things I have read on this subject. Thanks.(y)

I can't help but respect a man with the courage to stand up and be counted like that Saul.

Here I have to say that even if Hillary isn't the problem, she's the STANDARD BEARER and Poster Girl for those who do qualify as the problem.

just my humble opinion, hillary, the HAG,is one of the biggest liars, most corrupt scumbag, pocket lining pieces of garbage on the face of this planet.and if she has her way she will try to do away with the 2nd amendment, hunting and anything else she can think of that she doesnt believe in,and slick willey will be right besides her helping out.j.m.h.o.

No need to apologize, though I still pretty much despise Hillary. Interesting perspective however.

Perhaps I should have said that I was doing my best to be polite polite in respect of Saul.

Make no mistake I wouldn't urinate in a certain orifice on her if it was on fire!

I am a hardcore conservative, and the polar opposite of Liberal.

Hillary Clinton is the Icon of greed and corruption. Even though she is not the radical Liberal that Obama is, she is pandering herself to that crowd. She is a gun grabber, and want's the jackboot placed firmly on the necks of Americans, in order to continue the Democrat's quest for a totalitarian society.

Nice to see you come around to the dark side Saul!:D I get what you are saying but must like others respectfully disagree that Hillary is anything other than a complete lying, done nothing, gun grabbing, groper enabling, hideous old bag! And that's on a good day. Much as I dislike the idea of a socialist sitting in the WH ( we actually currently have one!), I would grudgingly vote for Bernie before I voted for Hideous Hill, if only to keep her and groper Bill out. At least Bernie is not totally anti gun like HH is. Glad I don't have to chose between them or I might take a long walk off a short dock!
Yesterday, HH said, "IF the 2nd Amendment is actually Constitutional"... IF ? IF!!!!?????

Great to hear people voice opinions without someone jumping down their throats. Nice to hear. You would think out of 200 million + people in the U.S. we could find TWO qualified to run for president.

They are both qualified to run. So was Obama. So was Bill Clinton or G W. All qualified to run. Now as to their suitability, that's another matter.

This has the makings of an epic thread!

How is Sanders so much more of a radical leftist than Hilary Clinton? Look at their opinions on some major policies

1. Immigration. I would argue that Sanders has a more level-headed approach to dealing with illegal immigrants than Clinton does. As evident by these 2 articles:

http://time.com/4170591/bernie-sanders-immigration-conservatives/

http://www.forbes.com/sites/taxanal...-clintons-welfare-reform-legacy/#740030c6726b

Particularly this quote " Declaring that as president, she would “stop the raids, stop the roundups,” she signaled that she would limit deportations to “violent criminals, terrorists, and anyone who threatens our safety.” " This is a totally insane approach to dealing with illegal immigration. You might as well say the American border will now be open for everyone.

2. Health care. This is the only major policy where Sanders is significantly more left shifted than Clinton. He calls for full universal health coverage. Now while I agree with a number of his criticisms about the state of health care in the US, his solution is not financially feasible. His system would cost tens of trillions. Clinton I guess just wants to more or less keep Obamacare?

3. Guns. Clinton wants to fight the gun lobby and ensure that criminals/terrorists etc... don't get guns? How does she plan on doing this I don't know nor have I found any concrete policies. Sanders wants to ban assault rifles, get rid of the loophole about gun shows not having background checks, and focus on improving mental healthcare. He does not appear to be worse and is arguably a lot better than Hilary when it comes to gun rights.

4. Foreign policy. Clinton's is far more hawkish than either Sander's or even Trump's. Both Sanders and Trump seem to be advocating a less "interventionist" America should mind its own business policy than Clinton is. Not to mention her borderline or actually criminal role in the Benghazi fiasco. She should be before the courts over this incident.

How is Clinton not the problem?

im completely willing to take over hell, just so i can and will take care of the hag and her chippy hubby and every scumbag politician that has screwed this country and everybody in it for the care and feeding of their own greed and egos!!!!!!!!! the sooner the better.

She is not a Patriot. I remember when she and slick willie first went to the White House she didn't want the Marine Guards to wear their uniforms. She is a liar! Saul is right about the influence of the youngest Dems. Who think that holding out their hand for the next freebie is the norm. My father is rolling over in his grave.
Lord help us if that woman is elected. Remember the gun round ups in Australia? What will the Supreme Court look like in eight years?
If Bernie is a socialist........is Hilda Beast very far behind?

I too am a life long Republican. The GOP is a mess. Neither Trump nor Hillary are fit to be president. I am very, very concerned about our country.

Interesting quote from Sen Lindsey Graham of SC: there has to be a time “when the love of country will trump hatred of Hillary.”

Interesting OpEd column in the NY Times: http://www.nytimes.com/2016/06/08/o...=WhatsNext&contentID=WhatsNext&pgtype=article

The sad reality is the basic fact that Trump is not fit to govern. Time and again he's proven that he's a lose cannon willing to lash out with racist comments; in short he's a misogynistic, racist narcissist. Hillery will lead the country in the wrong direction and will do everything possible to gut the 2nd amendment. She an opportunist and a corporate elitist. She does however understand government and intertational policy, something Trump has no knowledge of. Both are poor choices, one is simply worse than the other.

In Trump's defense the judge is a member of La Raza (The race) that promotes Latino rights. I don't feel Trump is necessarily being racist but more or less bringing attention to the fact that he might not get a fair trail. I feel the better way for Trump to have gone about this would have brought up the point that organizations that the judge is a member of have donated over 600K to Hilary in the form of speaking fees. But to your point Trump is loose cannon, but that isn't always a bad thing.

I will take Trump over Hideous Hill any day of the week!! This is the year of the anti establishment candidate, witness what happened to the usual crowd, especially on the repub side. Clowns like Jeb etc, all gone home, Trump trounced them all. And on the demtard side, you have the totally establishment HH and the less so Bernie the Socialist. While BtS may be losing to HH, he is much more popular than HH is. He is losing because the establishment demtard party wants HH, not BtS. I contend that regardless the hand wringing and whining that some offer about Trumps so called racism, and lack of experience, which is mostly baloney I might add, the folks are going to vote populist this year and not establishment. Young dem BtS voters hate HH. and many will not vote for her regardless what happens to BtS. If HH wins this election that means the voters are stupid enough to keep her for 8 years, just like they were stupid enough to keep BO for 8 years despite a poor showing his first 4 years. 8 years of HH will just about drive the last nail in the US as we have known it. A vote for HH is simply put, stupid. Don't be stupid.
