Hornady Superformance Powder for reloading?

So, wondering if anyone has any experience with hornady superformance powder? I will be reloading my .300wsm. I have done some load and so far it seems to be as advertised. 150gr bullet with 72gr of powder produced a 1.2" group at 100 yards. 5 shot avg speed was 3424fps. That was 320fps faster than the RL-15 powder I was using.

Just looking to see if anyone had similar results or had any issues in the past as I am new to reloading. Thanks!

Lots of extra recoil for a modest increase in MV; it's just a marketing hype for people who worry about 150-200 FPS boost.

I don't notice the recoil difference at all really. It kicks yes, but there is no difference between the RL-15 or even a factory loads. All things being equal I will take the extra 320fps as long as it groups well. Which it has. I am looking at longer shots as a possibility this year while I am in Wyoming. So I will take the increase if it makes sense. As of now it seems to be making sense.

There has been at least one grizzle about increased barrel erosion with these new propellants, i.e. a comment about a stainless 6.5 Creedmore barrel being burned out within 1,000 rounds or so. I will try to track it down, possibly via TFB or Sniper's Hide.

Vitavourhi 5 series provides the same increased velocity but hard on barrels thru faster throat erosions. Need more speed, lighter bullet would be the answer without the barrel erosion. In a hunting rifle with only a few hundred round in a lifetime, throat erosion may not such an issue.

I tried it in my Tikka 300wsm and 71gr behing a 165 accubond gets 3180 and 0.65" groups. As soon as the wind drops I'll test out some 155Amax loads for baboon blasting.

The stuff meters like water but it is a tad dirty burning. In the right cartridge / bullet combination it gives stellar velocities

I was at the range today to dial in for my up coming hunt in Wyoming. I wanted to chronograph the load again. But it was raining. Dialed it in at 2.5" high at 100. That puts her dead on at 300. I had 2 shots that were less than a 1/2" apart at 300 yards. And one that was a flyer. It was a bit windy so I am not concerned. Thus far I can't complain about the load.

I have heard and read about it being dirty. So after this hunt I will be giving the inside a good bath.

You don't shoot many rounds while hunting, nothing a bore snake won't take care of

I know this is an old post but had to put my 2 cents worth in anyway.
I was using H4831sc in my 25 for 3,440fps with a 100grain projectile.
I couldn't find any details on superformance for my cartridge but after comparing burn rate charts and much research. I found the following.
If you are using H4831sc/ ADI 2213
You can use superformance. Start 3 grains under what you are using for H4831sc and work up to the same load they you are using, ALL THE WHILE KEEPING AN EYE OUT FOR ANY PRESSURE SIGNS.
The velocity of the 100gn in my 25 was that it went from 3,440 fps to 3,670 fps. An increase of 230 fps. Using the 115/117 grain projectiles I get an increase of 120 fps.
Is it worth it. He'll yes my groups have got fractionally smaller, trajectory a bit flatter. Does it kill any better, not really but hey I enjoy experimenting and if I get better results all good if not I've lost nothing. The joy is in the experimenting.

It actualy offers nothing when compared to powders of like or equal burn rates and volumes

yes re15 is really too fast burning for that cartridge.
it will therefore come to high pressure before potential velocity is reached.
hence the big gain in velocity.
200 fps is probably the minimum gain to be of value.
that gain will give a noticeably improved point blank range, probably more value than increased killing power.

That's true but we don't have access to a lot of different powders here 8n OZ. We can't even get Winchester or some Hogdon powders anymore
