Howa 1500 375 Ruger

Where I can find a Howa 1500 375 Ruger in North America (Canada and USA), they are very hard to find.

It appears several were posted on Gunbroker toward the end of last year. None there now, but if you watch, they may come up again.

You will need to keep an eye on the gray market. Legacy/Howa no longer chambers the 375 Ruger in any configuration.

You might want to check out the Weatherby Vanguard 2 in .375 H&H. It is the same action as the Howa and it's in the venerable.375 H&H.
I absolutely love mine. The action is smooth as butter, feeding is perfect with anything I have put through it.
It is extremely accurate. And it is the softest shooting .375 I have owned or shot.

Pintoguy is correct, Howa no longer lists the 375 Ruger, so they are hard to find. Agree with gunworks on the Weatherby Vanguard. But if your heart is set on getting a 375 Ruger, as Charlie mentioned, go get a Ruger.

Thanks for the replies, I'm in Canada so importing a Howa from outside my country is out of question just the import fees are more than the gun
@CAustin the Ruger is a good option but they are too expensive for me, I really like them.
@gunworks yes the Weatherby Vanguard is a good option too, speaking of the Weatherby what's the max OAL that will fit in the magazine? The Weatherby is not a true magnum action I believe?

The Weatherby Vanguard Dangerous Game rifle is pretty cool, I really like Bell& Carlson stock and the sights are better.

I've seen some Rugers pretty reasonably price in 375 Ruger.
That said, another option is a Savage. They make their 116 Alaskan Brush Hunter with a 20" barrel or the Bear Hunter with a 23" barrel and muzzle brake, both in stainless.
I own a model 16 stainless in 7mm-08, love it.

Mossberg Patriot is another economy option, as they make a 375 Ruger.

Bud's Gun Shop has the wood stock and laminated versions in the low to mid $400 range and the synthetic stock for $321

I have a How a 1500 .375 Ruger and if I'd advise you not too get one. Great caliber and it shoots well but I really hate the stock. It's cheap and scratches easily. Barrel is also not well blued. It's fine for my purposes in the bush but if I could go back and pay the extra cash to get a better make I would do it in a heartbeat.

I would also vote for the Mossberg Patriot. The fact of the matter is, for under $500 you're probably not going to get the perfect rifle. It will go bang every time you pull the trigger, the bullets will spin and hopefully it will hit the target. Maybe the stock will fit you and it will shoot well for you. I was working at a gunstore in my youth when the patriot first came out. Mechanically, they know how to make them shoot. Other than that, none of the budget rifles are guns you take out to show your friends. If all you want to do is hunt with it then it will do that quite well.

I understand your dilemma though... I have a Winchester Model 70 in .375 H&H but what I really want is one of these:

Can't justify the $5,000-$20,000 price tag though.

This is first group with Mossberg Patriot 375 Ruger with GS Custom 200gr HV loaded 5 rounds bore sighted and went to range first round landed 9" high made adjustment fired remaining 4 in this is the group. Not a fancy rifle but it shoots well.

I contacted Howa directly in Japan and they understand English (even my bad English) because they replied to my email, here is the reply:

"Thank you for your inquiry.
It's great honor to receive a message from you in Canada.

However, in regard to your inquiry on 375 Ruger,
the model is no longer in production entirely due to the reduced demand not just in North America

When I picked up my Patriot they were hard to get wanted wood or laminate stock after searching for months I got chance to get Marinecote with synthetic stock had plans to replace stock with a Boyd's but after shooting it I decided if it's not broken don't fix it.

I got my Ruger Hawkeye African on GunBroker for $900. I do not think you can beat that for the Ruger quality. I am just not a fan of Howa personally. The Ruger is flawless in its design and what a reliable gun for DG!

I have the Alaskan. Love it. Off the bench the recoil is easy to handle, and it made a nice fun boost to the tannerite

Sorry not a Ruger guy, my advice is save up a few more bucks and buy a Winchester Model 70 in 375 H&H ... You won't regret it and it will hold it's value.

If you can find one in the US, you can import it into Canada through Prophet River for around $200 per firearm.

I have both the Ruger Hawkeye African (.416 Ruger) and a CRF Model 70 Winchester (.375 H&H). I have to agree with @colorado, that the Winchester is really an awesome rifle for the money. If you don't want a barrel band (I still don't know why this option is an additional $150), The alaskan version is fantastic. My Rugers are all rough in terms of fit and finish with cast lines being left all over the place, BUT... They work and I paid just $900 NIB for a CRF .416. It is a little light for such a thumper but it shoots well and the wood on the stock is very nice with an ebony forend cap (something even the Winchester doesn't have).

I know it is a little snobbish, and push feeds are much better than they used to be... there is just something about a CRF. The mauser claw is irreplaceable. I have a CRF all my rifles. Not just the heavy calibers, with the exception of my .223. In my opinion, you should save up the money, and buy a quality CRF rifle that will hold its value. I'm not trying to press my values on others, but I have owned a lot of guns from stainless synthetic to AR's, FAL's and others... What I've discovered is that there is absolutely no replacement for Walnut and blued steel. If I ever go to alaska, I will be bringing a blued, walnut gun, an oiling rag and a tool kit.


It is a little ironic that they make $500 rifles in calibers that are $80-$90 a box of shells. It won't be long till Ruger comes out with a magnum length American action and chambers it in .416 Rigby... a $400 rifle with a $209 box of shells.
