I recently had a birthday and my good friend got me a really nice gift. When I told him it was too much, he said it was because I help him cut firewood in the winter. He is older and really appreciates the help.

It’s a Ruger 77 9.3x62, complete with a vintage Weaver 1.5x4.5 scope, brass, dies, and bullets. He has had it for five or so years and said that he doesn’t need three elephant guns.
@Bob Nelson 35Whelen will be upset because I will no longer be building a 35 Whelen on that 03 sporter.

On the contrary mate I'm very happy for you. You now have a European Whelen. Good deals pay off, he is on very special old gent that sees the same thing in you that I do.
You mightn't be doing a Whelen but you have another excellent rifle in a good caliber.
Just keep the 25 build alive for me.

You are a good person for doing that service and I hope you enjoy that rifle.

If your profile picture rings right, Semper Fidelis.

You’re one incredibly lucky guy , both for having such a big hearted friend and for receiving such a fine gift . Congratulations and a very happy birthday . I took a very nice Hartebeest with a 9.3x62 ( a Mauser 98 Type B sporter ) and the 293 Gr RWS TUG soft point . Also , lovely for bear and elk . In my part of the world , whenever a friend gifts us any firearms or ammunition , we always gift them meat from the first animal which we harvest with their gifted firearm or ammunition .

Wyatt,
That's a very nice rifle and scope in a great cartridge. Sometimes the old adage, "No good deed goes unrewarded", actually holds true as in your generosity in helping your elderly friend out. Oh, and belated Happy Birthday!

@Wyatt Smith - if you need a premium, Midway has Oryx 285 in stock right now, and has had for a month or so.

The least expensive bullet available for 9.3 RN is, unbelievably (even less than Hornady SPRP 286), Nosler AB 250 gr. Midway has those in stock, too.

I have 2 boxes of the Norma, and when I get a little time and it isn't so fargling hot, I'm going to work up loads for them using 2000MR because I've gotten such terrific results with that powder and the Hornady bullets.

Outstanding and good for you helping him out! You deserve it I’m certain. I can’t find anyone to help me out without paying a fortune!

Wyatt your "new" 9.3 x 62 and your "proposed" 35 Whelen are almost the exact same rifle. The whisker's worth of difference is hardly worth mentioning. If Midway still has some of the 286 Gr. Norma Oryx in stock, you should probably pick up a couple of boxes. That is very good ammo.

Kindness paid forward is always appreciated. You friend obviously wanted to thank you with a special gift. You have a great rifle, my ruger 9.3 is a great shooting rifle. Enjoy it

Wow what a gesture! Congrats on the new add and a great friend!

Really a nice rifle! I let one slip through my fingers about 3 years ago. I couldn't make up my feeble mind on the Ruger or the CZ full stock and when I did, both had sold.
