Hey guys we are in the planning stages of a new building at the ranch. It will be a game room and office. We are building it of log of course to match the lodge. Please pass along some ideas as to what ya'll would like in a man cave it will have a bar, pool table, and flatscreen of course. Other than that it's a blank canvas. Any input would be appreciated.

I was in a nicer home a few years ago and the builder and owner had done the man cave downstairs in a western saloon decor. They used rough barn wood on all the walls along with having a brass rail along the bar and a spittoon. Even the bathroom for this area was out of the old west being just like a single seat outhouse just off of the bar.

The building will be log and I'm doing the trim in rough cut cedar. I'm thinking of doing the fixtures in polished bronze as that is what most in the lodge are. I like the idea of the saloon doors but I'm not sure how to incorporate that in as it's mainly just a big room. The "outhouse" is a good but I'd want it comfortable and no splinters in the butt. :E Horrified:

I understand the problems with the splinters. They did have a regular seat but if you brushed up against the sides or what the actual toilet was farmed into there could be a problem.

I have a exhaust fan with duct work throughout my game room, so I can smoke a cigar with guest ......

Card table would be nice and internet access. Just have a few lazy boy chairs around.

I love the occasional cigar but not inside. Even with a fan I worry about it getting into the furniture and ruining taxidermy. I do however have a front deck with one of the best views in all of the panhandle.

Lazy boy recliners are a must, we have wi-fi satellite internet, card table is a great idea! Thanks

I say good natural lighting (large windows) during the day, maybe a piano if anyone can play, and it should be open so there won't be too much congestion during gatherings.

There will be plenty of windows for lighting. Don't know anyone who can play the piano.

Keep in mind that direct sunlight will damage mounts and plan accordingly if you can.

If you have the height, a suspended flock of geese or ducks is a real conversation piece.

thats a great idea. Plus it gives me an excuse to hunt more. I'm a big waterfowl head anyway.

Internet hook up for PORN!!!!!:A Banana:

I'm just kidding about that.........a small internet space would be nice to quickly check emails, data sources, etc.
I like to read, and I have a nice collection of books on various topics (native American culture, reloading, firearms, dogs & dog training, fishing, wood working, etc) that I like to peruse from time to time.......I think a nice book shelf and collection of reading material might be a nice touch.

We broke ground, put in the initial plumbing and pour concrete this week!!! Whole logs are showing up on the truck Friday. :A Banana:

We'll hopefully be stacking logs next week. Log company is delayed due to a break down. Should have had the loads this week but oh well. I was hoping to have this done for the hunters I have coming in next month. I'll probably be lucky if it's done by the time hog patrol or bullthrower338 and the group get here. I've learned with all these construction projects that you can pretty much add one and a half times the time you think it will take to get something done.

Thanks Jerome I'm pretty excited about it. As per typical I wish I would have gone bigger.

As long as you have a good amount of wall space for your trophies you will be fine.
