This would be a great opportunity for any of our international members planning post-covid overseas travel to visit Australia
and include a great weekend of friendly competition with the firearms we love,
including the chance to meet a bunch of good blokes (and shealaghs )
and perhaps organize a hunt or two.

We are a relatively small club on the global stage but pride ourselves on hosting enjoyable well-run shoots with plenty of local character.
It would be our very great pleasure to host as many forum members as could make their way "down under" in August.

I am personally looking forward to renewing old acquaintances and making a few new ones.
Hope to see you there!

Although its mentioned in the pdf flyer, I should reiterate here that club guns are available at no charge for the use of competitors who are unable to travel to Australia or the NT with their own hardware.

These include:
Ruger M77 Mk.II (blued, walnut) .338 Win Mag topped with a Leupold VX3;
CZ 550 (blued, walnut, unscoped) in .416 Rigby;
Sabatti SxS double rifle in .450 NE (unscoped);
Sako Brown Bear (blued, laminated stock, unscoped) in .500 Jeffery.

Our only request is that competitors wishing to avail themselves of this opportunity use factory ammunition, or full-length sized reloads with a recommended load (Woodleigh reloading manual).
Factory loads could be brought-in or pre-ordered through one of the local gunshops.
Some reloaded ammo may be available through the NT BGRC at cost but we would need plenty of prior notice to get additional cases, projies etc.

Hopefully this helps to dispel any excuses for not coming!
We would like to see as many international competitors as possible at this shoot to give us Aussies a run for our money!

Hope you can make it!

Looks interesting, if this was in the states I would do my best to make it.

Flights booked :giggle:

The Dallas Safari Club's annual Big Bore shoot is 20 May. Much closer for the Americans obviously.

Well, the best-laid plans of mice and men...!

It falls to me as President of the host club to announce with considerable disappointment that the Australian National Discipline Committee has cancelled the International Big Game Rifle/Dangerous Game Shoot this year. We are told it had become apparent that international support from the usual players would be far less than expected, for a number of reasons, and understandably it wouldn't be much of an international shoot without international attendance.

Our local club has put in a lot of work already securing one major sponsor and several others, organizing targets and trophies, merchandise, banners, catering etc, all the usual stuff as well as support staff, and I know several of you have already booked air-fares and accommodation (and hunts!). Very unfortunate situation all round.

So about all I can do now is apologize to everyone, and thank those of you who were intending to participate for your support. Hopefully there will be more international interest next year should the National BGR Discipline decide to stand this up again.

Sad to hear!…. If I’d have known it would have helped me bring my .470 to OZ for the competition.

I was denied a temporary international firearm permit by NT firearms council; because I am coming to OZ to hunt with mates that are licensed aussies on private/cattle station land.

You see, Safari hunts(with licensed outfitter) and competition shooting with invitation letter from club are the only acceptable reasons for bringing a firearm into OZ….. Hunting with licensed friends on private property is not- I am being required to borrow a rifle to hunt with.

But yes I will definitely keep my eyes open for next year and looking forward to seeing the top end!

It would be very interesting to see how this event works out. Wouldn't hurt my feelings to see a copycat in this hemisphere.

There is an article in the SSAA about the Big game shoot.
Is it still canceled?

Perhaps this could instead be run as a sort of league where participants compete amongst themselves in their own back years and the scores get electronically compared? Not absolute, but then maybe host a far more manageable test of the best on common ground occasionally.

2023 is definitely canceled.
Postponed - as I understand it, plan is to run the international match in 24.

The National match is in Melbourne in September this year.

Thanks you had me worried when you said September. I’m going to try and get to the Nationals… hopefully I’ll see you there.
