I agree, Paypal is a terrible company.
On the other hand, the latency of other forms of payment like cash, cashiers check, and money order is largely unacceptable. It’s also rife with fraud. It also is arduous.
For all the flaws of Paypal, they are nothing compared to the cost, bloat, and incompetence of the US postal service which is the legs that send other forms of payment.
Of course, you can always pop $35 for a wire transfer for moving money around domestically or $50 internationally.
For me, I have a $1000 surcharge for being forced to go to the post office and a $100 surcharge for having to go to a bank in person. For those reasons, zelle/paypal/venmo provide instant results of getting somebody money that is owed.
If you think Paypal is bad, you should spend an hour looking up the history of your banking institution. They generally have a history of everything from supporting facist regimes, funding genocide, or providing financing for slave auctions. At least the largest of US banks that seem to have the majority of accounts. It makes Paypal seem almost more moral than the alternatives.
