Hello all,
I'm a new member who just joined but have been here many times while researching things. I spent some time working in South Africa for a year or so back in the early nineties, I got to go on a few viewing safaris and often stayed at Londolozi Game Reserve in the Mala Mala. Once the guides knew that I was a crazy keen hunter they invited me out to shoot a few impala for the camp barbeque. Raising children and a busy work life kept me away, it's now time to return. I have a few large safari rifles and just purchased a Blaser R8 in 9.3 x 62 and 375 H&H Mag. I'm looking forward to the excitement of putting a plains game hunt together first. I'm sure I will chat with many of you for input and advice.

You have a wonderful rifle!

Welcome @UpNorthMI, sounds like you have what it takes to enjoy Africa, here in Zimbabwe we call it 'the sniff'. You have the sniff.

Welcome to the dark side, you picked a great place to start your journey back to hunt Africa.

Welcome aboard UpNorthMI. I live in the South Eastern corner of MI about 2 miles from Canada. Your R8 will serve you well. Do you have any timeframe for your African hunt?

I look forward to following your journey back to Africa here on AH!

Welcome! Looking forward to hearing more about your hunting experience.

Timeframe is one of my questions, as a Southern hemisphere country things are a little different I guess. I'm looking for input on recommended months to travel.

Life get's busy with Michigan crossbow opening Oct 1, deer rifle season mid November, I like to fit in a few days driven pheasant shooting in the UK and I'm looking to add a little European driven boar late this year.

What months are recommended for Africa?

UpNorthMi, welcome to the AH forum! Glad you have decided to return to Africa. I’m certain you won’t regret it!

Hello and welcome!

Always happy to welcome a new member to AH. Especially one who is a fan of the R8. :A Stirring::A Popcorn:

Welcome to AH! By all accounts, you have a mighty fine rifle setup with that R8. Hopefully you are able to go on an amazing safari and will even share a hunt report with us. Enjoy the site!

Welcome to AH!

Morning Rob, Any feeling for how the 300 H&H shoots? How's the barrel condition?

Hello. I see you hunted with Sampie recently. If you don't mind me asking, where did you hunt with him? Zim or SA? And was it with a bow? What did you hunt?

I am possibly going to book with him soon.
Currently doing a load development on a .404 Jeffrey... it's always surprising to load .423 caliber bullets into a .404 caliber rifle. But we love it when we get 400 Gr North Fork SS bullets to 2300 FPS, those should hammer down on buffalo. Next up are the Cutting Edge solids and then Raptors... load 200 rounds of ammo for the customer and on to the next gun!
