Anyone else practice this with a rimfire? We'll shoot several thousand rounds before every trip. I'm not sure you can ever practice enough! Obviously we practice with our hunting rifles as well.

We called it "follow through" in marksmanship training back in the day (still do a lot of places). Many, if not most, shooters lift the head at the shot - all too often this turns into lifting the head during the shot. It is a habit that is guaranteed to destroy accuracy from field positions. Following through and calling the shot - keeping the sights on the target for a heartbeat and predicting precise point of impact - stops all of that introduced, subconscious movement during the shot. As you suggest, it is also a habit, and has to be learned through repetition.

I cringe when I see people lifting their heads as they are taking the shot! You'll never see the impact better than through the scope or down the barrel with irons!
