With the SCI Convention scheduled to be held in Las Vegas in January 2022, I thought it might be good to follow up on the rumors I had been hearing of increased crime in that city. The LV Metro Police Department has a crime mapping that shows the location of crimes ranging from disturbing the peace to assaults and worse.

You can filter for types of crimes, when they happened, and where. As I am frugal (cheap!), I probably won't be staying in the Mandalay Bay Hotel. I plan on using this map to find a reasonably priced hotel that doesn't a great incidence of crime nearby. The Strip, unfortunately, has been attracting a lot of "undesirables" and it shows.

Don't know if the shows in mandalay Bay halls...but if it is the luxor is good price and you walk over the connecting bridge to the mandalay bay...if its in mandalay a lot of the boys stay at the luxor so the bar gets quite festive...if its at that crap expo hall where it was last time then stay that end of town as nobody will be in luxor let alone mandalay..

@spike.t . Never been to Vegas. So my question to you based on your post is....If you stay at the Luxor, considerably cheaper than the Mandalay Bay, where the convention is actually held, a simple interior foot bridge connects them?

I'd just find a place in Henderson and drive into Vegas.

That is unless you like to drink and then you better find a place close by.

Its a bridge with shops ,, restaurants..bars etc that joins the 2 hotels...from luxor escalator up from the aurora bar near reception, or from casino ..the other side has escalators going down into casino in mandal

Lawlessness, seems to be a growing trend. Another thing to consider, is a growing number of unruly passengers on domestic air flights. Many of which, have turned violent.

All the “convention hotels” are in (Mandalay Bay, Delano and Four Seasons) or around (Luxor, Excalibur) the Mandalay Bay convention center, so hopefully the convention is there . . . I couldn’t find the exact location on the convention website!

Even though I am a hard core DSC fan for many years, I am giving consideration to going to SCI this year, I guess because we all lost out on so much last year. Well anyway thanks for the info. I have plenty of time to consider it.

I'm not sure where we'll be staying as I plan to be in Las Vegas starting the Sunday before for the SHOT Show. The SHOT Show will be in the Sands Expo as well as the new Caesars Expo center which is up the Strip from the Mandalay Bay. I'll be splitting my time between the two.

And make sure you tip well, or you’ll never see the drink lady again
And if they try and pass off the bar whiskey as what you wanted send it back and tip some more

Even years ago on one of the times they took the convention to Vegas as one off , a taxi driver told me never to go even one block off the strip or you would probably end up in shit....another who dropped me at a gunshop in the back areas said dont leave the parking lot here to look for a taxi get them to call you one...am sure that @Vanguard2279 can give all the info needed

As a world traveler, I want to assure you that you’re safe in Vegas. Every crime is something you bring on yourself in that town or via leaving the hotel area. Stick to the hotels, main attractions, shows, and avoid old Vegas you’re just fine.

it is way, way safer than most cities that size. Be advised, pimps will beat you up and strippers will rob you. Avoid illicit conduct and you’ll avoid problems.

I'm probably not going to check or follow-up on this; But I'll bet just about every large city has a somewhat similar crime map. And I'm guessing they are going through a period of increased crime. I mean many of their leaders just last year pretty much told the criminal element to have at it! And with the whole defund the police movement of course there is going to be more crime! I mean of course many criminals are staying home shaking in their boots at the thought of being confronted by a city psychologist;)

As stated previously, use your head, keep your cool, stay away from the shadier parts of town. You'll likely stay reasonably safe.

Was there back in the 00's when Oscar Goodman was mayor. Our convention's first day, he came to speak. Told us to not go one block off the strip in old Vegas and stick around the hotels here in McCarran county. Myself and a few others caught the bus to Fremont street and there were a few unsavory "characters" on that bus. We checked out Fremont, wandered a short distance to catch the bus and were panhandled. Got the hell out of there.

Vegas is just like any city (though not that large). There are safe areas and not so safe areas. If you are staying at the strip then you will be fine.

One does not even need to take cabs, uber etc. either there is a tram that connects just about every block, and it is fine to walk at the strip.

Living in CA Vegas is a frequent destination and never had an issue. I do have a CCW permit valid in NV, but never had to draw my firearm either.

There are foot bridges across The Strip all up and down it from Sahara to Tropicana
