My taxidermist is getting ready to start on my eland. Would like to see your mounts! Almost all I've seen have the ears forward....would like to see some other options to help decide. Thanks!

Waiting on a picture now from my taxidermist to see what the finished product looks like.

The ears on mine were done like one I saw in a picture on line. I also had the back hump done to true size with measurements taken from in the field when I took him. Way to many mount do not show the true body size of eland to me. The very old large bulls are just massive and most mounts miss that.

Mine is a bit different....... But I wanted something different....talked to my taxidermist and below is what we came up with. Certainly not traditional, probably to busy for some, but I wanted to show off the dewlap as that is one of the unique features of the eland. Anybody like it? Anybody not like it?

Eland, I see tons of Eland mount all over the net and have never understood tons of wrinkles when live eland don't have them....I mount Eland with reference from live pics.

Even MASSIVE Bulls have very smooth lines...

That Eland pedestal mount is a keeper (one of the better I have seen) - very nice form, really well done and a very natural position that really compliments and displays the beauty of these big animals - they are so awesome that you don't need any unnatural poses or gimicks to make them look good...

I don't think I would do my mount like that, but taxidermy is art, and you like what you like. Your taxidermist did a great job on it. Kudos for originality.

Thanks VonJager for your comment. I agree that the pose is not for everyone. In my taxidermy quest I looked at as many Eland shoulder mounts as I could locate and couldn't find a pose that I thought really did the animal justice. I wanted something different something eye catching. When people walk into the room it most definitely catches their attention. It was not an easy choice for me to go this route with this mount, but I am certainly happy I did. Although unconventional it really shows off the massive size of the animal as well as the dewlap (which I think is lost on most shoulder mounts of eland), as well as the gracefulness of the animal.

Awesome, I'm in Houston county, Bonaire. Now there are three of us. JB, we'll definitely have to get together once you move to GA.

Dennis, those are some beautiful mounts. Elan is on my bucket list for my next trip to Africa. :)

Chopped up the whole thing as I kept hitting the 240 character limit...
Found out the trigger word in the end... It was muzzle or velocity. dropped them and it posted.:)

2,822fps, ES 8.2
This compares favorably to 7 Rem Mag. with less powder & recoil.

I know that this thread is more than a year old but as a new member I thought I would pass along my .280AI loading.
I am shooting F Open long range rather than hunting but here is what is working for me and I have managed a 198.14 at 800 meters.
That is for 20 shots. The 14 are X's which is a 5" circle.
