My double regulates well with Hornady DGX/DGS, but I have a Zim hunt in ‘24 where a hippo on land is a possibility. Outfitter prefers TSX for the task.

I have quite a bit of H4350, but no data in Barnes book for it and no response on my email I sent them. The load for a jacketed 570 soft from Wright is 103-106g H4350.

When I put 101g in the case I have to compress the load a bit to get OAL of 3.75” due to the length of the TSX. A DGX would not come close to the powder.

Curious if this is an issue? Has anyone used this powder with the tsx or can the numbers be ran in a program to see if pressures would be ok?

Thanks

If it was me and my Hornady solids regulate well out of my double and take elephants with respect to your outfitter use the DGS.

The all copper TSX is longer and must be inserted further into the cartridge case. This decreases the case capacity. Using a TSX instead of a shorter bullet will very likely increase pressure if the same weight of powder is used.

Barnes manual #3 lists for Barnes XLC FB or Solid with H4350 charges from 98 to 102.5.

570 Barnes XLC FB or Solid Hodgdon H-4350 102.5 2,150

This info is worth what you paid for it. Start with the lower charge and work up slowly.
Data for an XLC may be different than for a TSX.

Maybe another member will verify the above listed load? Please...

A non-mono metal bullet such as a Swift A Frame should be shorter than the TSX...

I can confirm the above info from Load data.com is correct.

I looked up what a Barnes XLC FB bullet is.
The XLC was their moly-coated bullet without the horizonal grooves that a TSX has.
I can't find any comparison for pressure of the same loads with TSX vs XLC bullets.

This Barnes webpage shows the evolution of Barnes X bullets.

Also;

Be careful!

Thanks! Looks like I will stick to Barnes loads in the book and try to find some H380 I suppose. RL15 is virtually unobtainable it seems.

You won't find RL 15 anywhere except at scalper's prices. No one knows for sure why that is but the govt bought a LOT of it for their 300 PRC sniper rifle project.

I had to buy all my RL 15.5 from GB. I like it better than 15.0 given better temperature control. Yes expensive at GB but always available

I haven't seen 15.5 powder. I just looked at GB and didn't find any?

Wow! I bought an 8 pound and then 3 one pound granted about 3 months ago from them…only place I could find any

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
