Looking for my first Africa Hunt help ???

Myself and one of my customers C---------- are looking for a great hunt in A, he has been long time ago and got some plains but I have never. So my task is to find us a great hunt. . C--------- really wants a Lion plus plains and Cape ???

Have to have first class housing for C=====may be his brother in law for a site seeing trip? Me I sleep in the truck for a better Kudo lol.

I am thinking 14 days at the least, C---- wants to keep it no more than that. I like 21 but got to go with the flow..unless PH can twist C------ arm

I know for myself quality over quantity is my game, I rather shoot 4 great animals than 6 ok ones. Picking out which ones is the hard part you guys have so many to choose from. .:clapping:

I think this is what I want depends on the $$. I want to full mount the Springbok and something else that matches up, to go with my NZ Chamois & thar that are mounted on pedestal with snow etc by woodsbury

I am sure you can narrow down my wants by the price but I know quality hunt = money.

Huntingbiggun, It seems that you know exactly what you would like, or want, your list of Species opens up Some really good areas in africa, this includes blocks in the selous, zambia as well as zim and Sout africa, as far as getting all you like (whilst also keeping the first class accomodation by this I am assuming at least 4 star in mind) South Africa would be a good bet however you would have to rap your head and mind around hunting a fenced area.

In my opinion size of the primary property is of the highest importance, SA operators love to tell hunters that they hunt 250 000 acres but this is concession land and NOT the primary property(base camp property).

With a little searching you will find areas in SA that operate on 30 000 acres plus of primary land. Ethics is a personal thing and this every hunter needs to sort for himself.

Personally drop and shoot ( put and take is not my cup of tea!)

Zim could be a good option but seriously reputable outfits are the way to go and the $ is not going to be in your favour, this goes for Tanzania as well as Zambia, you do not want to hunt on the cheap as this will hurt you somewhere I have seen it on this site and many other instances, You have to keep in mind that the last 3 countries mentioned are free roaming, and depending on, well once again ethics this could be the deciding factor!

However on species such as Leopard fence or no fence has no influance whatsoever. Permits in SA are the toughest thing to come by and reputable outfits have a 3-4 year waiting period, by reputable I am refering to outfits thar strictly adhere to the regulations regarding permit application ie. Max 2 application per company and designatec hunting areas as stipulated by the issueing authority, one outfitter buying a permit from another is NOT LEGAL.

(Getting side tracked), I saw that you did mention Lion the debate rages on as far as a fenced area of 50 0000 acres or a free roaming hunt my opinion as a Bioligist I will keep to myself as I am all for sutainable use in terms of hunting and have my doubts over the sutainability of free roaming lion hunting, What I can say is on the $ side hunt in Tanz, Zim are stiff but a tight budgest is only as tight as once finances ( not all of use has the same measuring staff)

In closing go reputable does not matter which country you pick, get all costs on paper, have a contract drafted, the days of giving an outfitter $ 10 000 deposit on a smile are over, this will count in your favor when all is said and done, as well as the outfitters in certain cases.

7000 miles is a long way to travel to come to fulfill a life long dream do as much research as you can and be very, very weary of one sided opinions, thevwhole of Africa has good hunting destinations and solid honest outfitters, You must just find the one that suits all your requirements.

Thanks for the input, I am sure that my list will change as the leopard I do not feel like time will allow that to be on this trip but I figured just throw it all out and see what I can find,

The fence high or low will be debated forever, I am not interested in a small pen shoot & drop hunt. However I have hunted both and will judge each on it's own merit.

Myself & my buddy are looking for a great experience not just a head collecting trip. The accomudations need to be clean, we rather spend most the time sitting outside talking about our great hunt that day and retire to a clean bed. say 3 star

Even on my list it is just what catchs my eye, so we are both open minded on what the final goal will be be one of the 5 is a must and quality is the main focus with a true Africa flavor. I was reading one of the great stories on AH not ready for the ethophia hunt with the natives & flies just yet

Yep found that out this site is great for newbie that do not know one end of africa from the other lol, plus already got a kindred soul has a plane, about 4 new friends already going to be hard to pick a horse to ride but that is better than yesterday when I did not even know the name of any horses lol, thanks for the suggestion

As I said in the above post, to hunt buff and gemsbok on the same hunt without moving areas one would have to hunt on a fenced game ranch. However, if you wanted hunt say the Zambezi valley for buff then you will not find Gemsbok. I guess what I was suggesting, perhaps not so clearly, was the species you can hunt are determined by the area ( as well as type of hunt i.e fenced or unfenced) or alternatively to pick the species and then try and find the best place to hunt them.

Richteb, True from that perspective, I am however not about to get into opinions regarding fenced or not fenced, as previously mentioned size of property has a direct influance on this, from a first safari perspective as well as the standard of accomodations, South Africa and Nam would be my first choice, if I was taking a safari with an old time hunting friend or brother I would pick R2 ( (Ruaha 2) in the selous without the slightest doubt.

Point is all countries have something to offer one should find what best suits your needs, Zim is awesome no doubt about that. I do agree with fenced or unfenced but once again..... Size. There are many fenced properties where once hunts between four of the African big 5 or even 5, hunting method is also a very important point and this should be carefully researched, The options are endless when selecting a ethical hunting safari and this can be found in all southern african countries.
Not just a selected few.

14 day time limit and he wants a Lion!
It can be done inside a fence for sure.
So, lioness or big male? "Canned" or free range? That will change the location and the price.

4 or 5 Star lodges abound in Southern Africa.

Sight seeing trip, after the hunt or during?
What sights does he want to see? or are you just keeping him busy while you hunt.

So, if "C's" list tops out with Lion and Buffalo and your list tops with Kudu and Gemsbok you guys are going to have a hard time hunting together.

Pick your target species and find an outfit who has them.
Every good outfit will be able to present you with "ok" trophies.
Make sure you make it clear that you are after large trophies and will hunt hard for them.

I want to full mount the Springbok

You don't typically leave Leopard and Buffalo last on your list. If hunting these two they top the list and everything else takes a back seat until they are "in the salt".
Again, I would suggest you set your priorities more clearly.

Let the outfitters know what you really want to hunt.

As you can see my first list was just a newbie attempt and what to ask for this, my list was only in order of the pictures I was looking at lol, I even know the cape is #1 but C lion is some what a problem and thanks to all the detailed info from AH & couple great folks on here I am trying to change his mind.

so when I get it figured out we both will know lol. Keep it coming I learn something new on every post that I have not thought to ask. Now I want a linx to go with my Gemsbox for a pedestal mount. ANyone need a new helicopter
