Marburg virus outbreak - Equitorial Guinea and Cameroon

Luckily, unlike COVID and the flu, Marburg and Ebola are “only” spread through prolonged direct contact, blood and other bodily fluids. Sometimes bedding and sharing unwashed clothes are suspected as well.

I would just be cautious. Outbreaks are unfortunately par for the course anywhere along the equator in Africa. If you're worried about going then don't feel pressured to go.

Yes, exactly. Meaning you'd actually have to get in direct contact with an infected person to contract the virus. And knowing how nervous African governments are about outbreaks, due to past events, the chances of actually getting infected are extremely slim. They won't let anyone through unless they're absolutely sure it's safe.

Old world fruit bats are suspected of being the main natural reservoir of the virus (still to be confirmed) and capable of transmitting the virus. Non-human primates are know to be affected by the virus and as such butchering of an infected primate would provided an opportunity for transmission of the virus to humans. Transmission person to person is generally through "close contact" especially bodily fluids ie behave yourself!

Assuming proper caution, its possible that the major problem for visiting hunters may involve sudden border closures and travel disruption. Just another factor to plan around.

More worrisome to me would be potential travel restrictions. Thanks OP for posting. Am currently in the planning stages of my last major adventure, and all info helps... ...FWB
