I was reading today where geologists believe they have found a 300 mile long asteroid strike under Australia, specifically under New South Wales that occurred some 450 million years ago and wiped out 85% of the species living on Earth. If found to be correct, this would be the largest asteroid strike found so far. This happened way before the extinction of the dinosaurs due to the Yucatan Peninsula asteroid strike. They've found a "swirling" magnetic field on the surface in the area of the strike. This would explain Townsend's @Bob Nelson 35Whelen "astronomical" velocity readings on his chronograph since he lives right on top of the asteroid strike. LOL

Wait for it……it wasn’t an asteroid, just another example of the power of a 35 Whelen projectile loaded to its full potential.

Definitely not a Berger asteroid.

@CoElkHunter
I was wondering why I was getting 4,000 fps out of my 22 long rifle. I thought it was just the Bundy and Vegemite.

@375 Ruger Fan
You is a silly Vegemite mate.
A fully loaded Whelen wouldn't do that. It would have been a lot worse.
The old Whelen is the quiet achiever, it just plods along getting the job done without any big company bullshit advertising like the 243s and manbun.
It even comes in real hunting rifle you know blued steel and wood. Not these plastic fantastic Barbie guns that others like.

You COULD get that velocity out of your .220 Swift IF the magnetic anomalies are just right? I had one once and traded it for a waterbed. I should be struck by a meteor! LOL

What a great way to kick off our 2025 hunting season in South Africa.

This beautiful Impala ram was taken at just over 300 yards, took a few steps and toppled over.

We are looking forward to the next week and a half of hunting with our first client of the year.

Do you have any more copies of African Dangerous Game Cartridges, Author: Pierre van der Walt ? I'm looking for one. Thanks for any information, John [redacted]
