Yesterday I placed an order with Midway USA, for a total of $51.37. Order went through with no problem and received a confirmation e-mail. For some reason I checked my bank account and noticed 11 charges of $51.37 from Midway USA. I checked their website and noticed that they were already closed. So, I called my bank to dispute 10 of those charges. I had no issues with my bank helping me dispute the charges.

Has anyone had anything remotely similar happened? I've been shopping at Midway for many years, and this has never happened. Not sure what went wrong but I don't like being charged 10 times for one order. :ROFLMAO:

While I've not faced that specific issue, my recent midway experience was them selling "416 Taylor" dies through Amazon, and they delivered me 6.5-300WBY dies instead which I'm pretty sour about.

Chances are that this was a case of a system glitch rather than any systematic failure at least. If you log into your account, do you show 10+1 orders? If so, then that would possibly indicate a failure on their order system, but if it's a single order charged 10+1 times, that might indicate they glitched on the payment taking side.

Yes, my Midway account only showed one order.

I'm not expert on how all those payment systems are setup, but it definitely sounds like something didn't get a confirmation response once the payment method was charged and so it repeated until it either got one or hit max attempts.

Hopefully they'll step up and do right by kicking something your way for the trouble of dealing with $500 in unplanned charges on your card. In my case they didn't offer me squat for wasting my time and making me pass on other opportunities to purchase these rather elusive dies. I suppose to be fair, I still have an overall positive view of them as a brand, but I've heard a few negatives recently that make me hope they aren't trending down.

Who knows. I've never had any issues with them before, and I'm sure my bank will work on their end to dispute the charges.

Do not use your debit card as a credit card.

Banks and websites are under constant attack, and they're only getting more sophisticated over time. A credit card is easily replaced if compromised. Some a-hole gaining direct access to your bank account and draining it of every penny you have will leave you in a hole that might take weeks or months to refill.

I had this happen with a different place where I made an order, but my card threw a flag so the order didn’t go through. When I talked to the credit card company they saw multiple attempts to charge the same amount. They say it was just an automatic attempt on the vendors part and not “real” charges. I told them to approve the charge and everything was OK. No multiple charges.

Great point. Also, I think it's fairly regular practice for many banks to provide zero-liability for debit card users that got scammed, but on the other hand that benefit is fairly guaranteed for users of actual credit cards. Having traveled a lot, I've had more than a few cards compromised and was always happy it was a credit versus my real money.

I saw Larry Potterfield at the SCI, and asked him why everything is always out of stock.

In all seriousness, whenever a company over automates, and depends so much on it that a typical consumer issue can't be taken care of in an efficient manner, then to me that's just bad customer service. No different than if I had been treated rudely by an employee of that company.

I quit dealing with Midway ... or rather they refuse to deal with me. I live in Canada but still am US citizen with a US bank account and US mailing address. But Midway still won't sell me anything because I live in Canada. Screw em.

I have a separate debit/credit card for those transactions. I just make sure there's hardly any money in the account. Just enough to travel with or buy whatever on line. If it gets compromised, I cut the card up and open a new account. Been there done that.

Likely because they don't want to have to deal with ITAR among other things. They aren't the only ones.

Actually, it seems they are the only ones. Midway sells a lot of stuff that doesn't fall under that international agreement, but they won't sell to me. It's a passing contest. I'm not interested in being a pawn in Potterfield's games.

It ain't about you, sparky. That's kind of an exalted opinion of yourself. Potterfield doesn't give a crap about you. He doesn't give a crap about me, either.

Graf's doesn't do small orders outside of the US, either. As nearly as I can tell, Powder Valley doesn't ship international at all.

My only problem with Midway is how easy I can order stuff from them................when it's in stock.

They even do a pretty good job of notifying me when something that was out of stock and it comes in.

Love the birthday cupon

Everyone always thinks about the worst thing that can happen, maybe ask yourself what's the best outcome that could happen?
