We recently finished up our first safari in August 2022. Recently received word that there were some issues with taxidermy and it would not be complete until the end of 2023.

We have another hunt planned for May of 2024. It was suggested that I may want to delay shipping out my current group of 4 shoulder mounts to ship with my trophies taken in May.

Is it possible to ship Dip and pack via air with finished taxidermy and is there really any savings if we did this verses shipping finished via ocean and the May trip as dip and pack as air?

I think that you should talk to a importer.

7 years ago I had d&p along with a couple euros in the same crate, but things change.

I was told the same, that finished and unfinished cannot be mixed.

Splitting Image told me a couple months ago that they can't combine finished and unfinished taxidermy in the same crate.
Two years ago I had a crate shipped from a different South African taxidermist that had both finished and unfinished taxidermy in it with no issues. I don't know if something has changed in the past two years or if some taxidermist will mix and others won't.

Is it possibly worth having them hold the first shipment and shipping them completed by boat? Would it save anything on shipping cost?

I think that by the time that you pay the extra fees when it is shipped by boat and the time factor you don't save a thing.

My crate from last year came air freight and total cost for everything to my garage was just over $3,000. It had 3 shoulder mounts and 4 euros in it.

I am getting quotes about $5500 for air and $2500 for ocean.

Just be careful with quotes for ocean freight. My last one didn’t include port fees that ultimately added up to equal air freight fees.

No you can not combine finished and unfinished. It is due to sanitary reasons That I really don't understand. Going by boat saves nothing over air due to port fees. I have tried several times even with 15 hunters trophies and logistics and price dont work. Ship by air separately and just have to deal with the cost.
That said there is not a problem combining different years safaris.

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.
