Model 70 Alaskan vs. X-Bolt Medallion Maple? .300 Win Mag

Choosing between these two rifles. It will be my first safari plains game up to Kudu and Wildebeest, plan to equip with some high end german optics. I want this rifle to be passed down in the family, as an heirloom type deal. Which one do I choose? Optics suggestions?

Then the Timber stock will be more traditional for Africa and might, look better on the photos.

That's personal choice but you asked. I hired a rifle, I can't cast a vote. I have timber, composite and laminate.

My CZ550 is Timber and would look cooler if it had a barrel band but that is my ideal image of a Safari rifle.

If you are going all traditional with shorts, safari shirt and a Pith Helmet timber stock is in vogue.

If you can love a plastic stock and use it in Africa , go make dreams a reality because it's your preference and your hunt.

If I was hunting foul weather I would take a rifle that suits the part. If you need a composite stock where you live/hunt then it makes sense to by the Alaskan.

M70 Alaskan. I hunted with mine on my last hunt in RSA. Of course I’m partial to M70 over all other rifles

Alaskan is wood stock.

There is nothing like a highly figured maple stock. Its high gloss so you have to be careful with it, but that's what I would choose.

I am currently playing with an Alaskan in .338 Win and to my mind it is an excellent rifle in all ways. The CRF function is perfect, great pad on it, LOP is just right, wood while fairly plain is pleasant in looks and well designed.
I like the 25" barrel.
Easy to adjust trigger as well.
It is fast becoming a favorite rifle.

Had the Browning, and now have the Alaskan in both 300WM and 375HH. The Browning is a class act, no way around it, but the combination of CRF and factory open sights on the Alaskan was the deciding factor for me. No difference in accuracy with either brand. Probably will come down to your own preference.

M70 hands down. Not a fan of the browning actions. I’ve always found that in a pinch you can bind them.

Get the Model 70 Super Grade with the maple stock. I have one in 30-06 and the stock is beautifu.

Neither. Find one of the Winchester .300 Win. Mags. done in maple for Cabelas just a few years ago. Best of both
