Just received my Ruger Alaskan in 375 Ruger. Will be my ”brush-gun” when hunting boars with my Wachtelhund this autumn winter. Bullet choice will be a modest loaded 300 grain Norma Oryx. We will se how it will work.

A. 375 is going to knock boars down without hesitation. I load a 300 grain woodleigh weldcore at 2,500fps for my ruger guide gun. I haven't taken anything with that particular gun yet but the bear in my avatar was taken with a .375 h&h and he didnt move one step. Just buckled and rolled about 100 feet down the hill. Done. .375 are great!

Love mine! It is an older "Alaskan" model with the 23" barrel and laminated stock, it wears a Hogue stock now. It is a real tack driver with 270gr Hornady RN, 300gr Sierras, and 300gr Accubonds. Does quite well with cast bullets too.

It's an awesome gun, yet give an update about your first time experience

Nice gun.

I have my first .375 heading to my house in a few weeks to go along with my .45-70 guide gun. I wanted a caliber and a rifle that I can stretch out to 300-400 yards if needed and still has the knockdown power on large dangerous game if needed.

At this time I will not be reloading, however my plan is to start reloading for both the .375 and .45-70 along with my .35 rem.

I have been looking for a new rifle for a year and being a Lefty, they are harder to find so when I located the Ruger .375 sporter in stainless/grey pepper laminate with the 20" barrel I jumped on it. I found a place that had a handful of these brand new. It should be here early July.

I am getting a pair of Warne scopemounts in the mail today, so I loaded up some extra ammo. Will go to the hunting ground getting it sighted in and maybe hunt some tonight.
The sun almost never gets below the horison now.

@White Man, this is beautiful. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

My apologies, didn't mean to derail this post.

I've always "liked" the idea of a 375 i just can't get myself to buy one. I can't justify it with the animals i hunt here in South Africa. All can be taken with the 308 and I'm not planning on hunting dangerous game due to budget constraints.

I just returned from South Africa at the end of May. I used a .300 Win. Mag. only and took down a bull kudu with one shot and a wildebeest with one shot. Those are some of the tougher animals for plains game. Shot placement is much more important than a bigger caliber bullet

What a great way to kick off our 2025 hunting season in South Africa.

This beautiful Impala ram was taken at just over 300 yards, took a few steps and toppled over.

We are looking forward to the next week and a half of hunting with our first client of the year.

Out of all the different color variations of Impala the black Impala just stands out with its beautiful pitch black hide.

Impala is one of the animals you will see all over Africa.
You can see them in herds of a 100 plus together.

This excellent ram was taken with one of our previous client this past season.
