Me: Retired Army, founding member of the Action Pistol Team, shot competitively for a living for many years. Love cool guns, and by cool I mean accurate, fast, great ergonomics etc.

My current lust is a Rigby 275 (7x57). Out of my price range.

Please tell me I am an idiot and stop looking at such things.

:)

Why not a matched pair of Highland Stalkers in .275 and 9.3x62? Am I helping?

I think you are on the wrong forum for that!

Moreover, you can expect suggestions to buy 7x57 and one more Rigby in 375 H&H,
(Which btw, I think it is good idea, you never know when you will stumble upon a buffalo)

416 is also to be considered.....

Please dont forget to post the pictures after you make the shopping!

Welcome to AH.

Wrong forum if you are looking to be:

Discouraged anyone from buying a new firearm:

Nay, we encourage members to by several new firearms

Choosing which animal not to hunt:

For shame, as long as it is a legal hunt and a legal animal hunt everything that Africa offers

Say you can't afford an African safari:,

The sponsors on here will be glad to help you plan affordable hunts

You have just entered the realm of the most helpful group of people to help plan your hunts around the world. But it does come with a modest price we require hunt reports and photos.

:cool::ROFLMAO:

A few years ago a Gunshop owner in Gaborone (Botswana) called me over to fondle a lovely pair - new 275 and 416 Rigbys that a retired school teacher ordered from the maker. I don't what the teacher taught, but I will surely remember those two fine guns, their balance and how they felt in my hands.

A man must have dreams!

I thought you said you have a problem.

If you are looking for fast, accurate and great ergonomics...take a look at the Blaser R8.

I'll throw in the fact that they have great triggers, incredible engineering design and have multiple caliber options using the same stock. Of course, everything has it's price as well.

BTW - You don't have a problem that can't be solved by the helpful enablers of Africa Hunting. Welcome to the forum.

You have come to the wrong place. Nothing but wretched enablers on this site.

A nice original condition Rigby is going to run you $8000-$10,000. I don't think you're crazy, because their value will hold or appreciate. 12 years ago I could buy them all day long for $4000, mint for $6000, just to give you an idea of the market.

A new Highland Stalker is running what, $16,500?

I'd suggest you get a vintage one, go love it and shoot it. If it doesn't work out for you or you need funds, you can surely sell it in 2 weeks for a 10% loss, or perhaps sell it for a reasonable profit. No new gun is going to give you that "asset class" security.

posting that here is sorta like going to a crack house and asking the dealer if he thinks its a good idea if you smoke another rock.. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

My Dream Team -

Rigby Highland Stalker - .275 Rigby, 9.3x62, and 416 Rigby

Better option - have Parkwest build these for you.

Best option - Have Matt Roberts build them....

Aim high to hit high.....

You guys are great!

Sounds like the sporting clays guys I shoot with..."of course you NEED a new Krieghoff/Perazzi"

My youngest daughter is a very competitive clays shooter…

Somehow I magically went from 1 nice o/u clays gun in the safe to 3 o/u and 1 nice semi clays gun… all fitted for a 17 year old female (not my 6’4”, large framed self)… in 18 months…

Clays guys are FAR worse than AH members lol…

Any Rigby would be awesome.
I will endorse the R8 as well. My wife calls it the Pandora bracelet of guns. You buy one and have fun continually buying new ”charms” to add to it.

@gearguywb you are NOT an idiot. However, coming here to seek help/advice to not buy a gun is sort of like an AA (alcoholics anonymous) group holding a meeting at a pub during happy hour. It just isn't going to work.

I won't say your an idiot as I lust for one myself. I cannot afford $6K plus.....yet. I have been thinking/working my way into condensing my collection to get a trio African Battery of EXACTLY what I want. It's difficult, as I have a gorgeous .375 H&H Ruger Safari Magnum. Absolutely beautiful.....but just doesnt scratch the itch I want.

One consideration is to continually upgrade or....keep an eye out. Many are made "In the style of".

I recently acquired this 6.5X55 swede and it has somewhat wetted the itch for my light hunter. It has not completely scratched it. However it will tide me over until I come across a perfect 7X57. This replaced a nice 6.5 Swede Husqvarna mauser, and is definately an upgrade as I love the side mount scope I can remove and easily use the low irons.
