My new 375 needs a scope

I just got a Ruger 375 Hawkeyes in 375 Ruger. I would like to put a Leupold 1.5-5 or 1.75-6 scope on it but would like to get some help from the hunters on this web site.
What do you think? The 1.5-5 has a high eye relief of 3.7 inches and the 1.75-6 has a high eye relief of 3.3 inches. They both have a low of 4.4 inches. Could I do some thing better? Would like to get the Gray that Leupold offers to match my stainless rifle!!!

I have a 375 Ruger Hawkeye in stainless & laminated stock. I went w/ the Leupold 1.5-5 in the matte finish, matte rings and German #4 reticle. I am very happy with this rifle/scope combo. I wan't aware that Leupold still offers the silver/gray either of the model you are considering.

Not sure that the grey is available outside VX1.

I have only shot it with the medal sights so far. Was wondering if you have had any problems with the scope and eye relief? My first choice was the 1.5-5 with the snub nose.
If you order the scope from Leupold you can get gray or silver as a color. I think I am going to do it in gray.

I have a Browning X Bolt in 375 H&H. I put a Leupold VX3 3.5x10-50. (Stainless rifle & Silver scope) They have several options in terms scopes..... consider the Leupold.

I have a Leupold VX-III 1.5-5x on my 375 H&H and like it very much. Actually, I was just out this past weekend shooting it. Excellent eye relief (never a case of "scope eye") and plenty of magnification on the high end for longer shots. The 1.5X setting has a great field of view. Don't think you can go wrong with it for the money. Probably not the best choice for very low-light situations, but I find it plenty bright in normal light.

No "Scope Rash" over the eyebrow yet from this rifle/scope combo. Eye relief is good. Also, the eyepiece has a wider, flat rubber edge to it, as opposed to the cookie cutter sharp edge that a lot of my older scopes have. So if the scope were to kiss your eyebrow, you might not get the crescent shape cut that bleeds profusely. I did put an Alumina flip lens cover on the eyepiece. You have to remove the nice, rubber piece in order to install this lens cover. For the 20mm Optic lens on front, I just use a Butler Creek clear plastic lens cover.

Why not consider the VX6 1-6*24 . I have one on my 416 Rigby, and rate it very high.

On my 30-06 I have a VX1 3-9*50, and the VX6 makes up with quality and clarity where it lacks the extra magnification of the 3-9 VX1. Up to 150 yards in my experiance I will rather have the VX6 with its lower magnification, than the 3-9 Vx1.

I know you cant really compare,the VX1 with the VX6, just my thoughts.

Leupold also gets my vote.

I also eventually settled on the Leupold for my 375H&H. I got the VX3 1.5-5 with Illum reticle (Not sure why I did that now.........but hey its there!) I actually have 2 x of those scopes and really enjoy them!

They are perfect for all the hunting I do with my 375. But if your plan is to shoot in the Kalahari, maybe look at something with higher magnification, otherwise that range is spot on! And they have plenty eye relief!

How much eye relief you need is much more dependent on the stock configuration than on the cartridge being fired. The Thompson/Center Encore rifle stock lends itself well to scope bites; the worst scope bit I've had was when shooting it prone with the 25/06 barrel on it; I needed stitches.

On the other hand I had a Leuopld 2-7X scope on a CZ 550 Safari Magnum in 458 Lott and have a low power scope on a 460 Weatherby Magnum and have never come close to having a scope bite even when shooting them from the bench.

Most Leupolds have adequate eye relief, but field of view is very important to me for anything that might bite/claw/move fast anywhere in the world. I would only put the VX6 1-6, VX3 1.5-5, VX2 1-4, or VXR 1.25-4 on a rifle that might see use for DG (like a .375). And I think 4-6x is adequate on the upper end for any big game to 300 yards or so (like a .375). That's all just my humble opinion, of course. The VX6 1-6 is amazing, with a huge FOV, great magnification range, awesome glass, etc. The old standby VX3 1.5-5, maybe with a German #4 reticle, is hard to beat too. The VX3 1.75-6x looks good on paper, but FOV is only 51 feet @ 100 yds, and the amount of internal adjustment on it sucks. You really need to dig into the specs to see what you're getting. Good luck with your choice!

I bought my 375 Ruger initially with the intent to hunt Alaska for bear, I put a VX 3 on it of the 2.5-8x36 variety and I am very pleased with it, I have shot a couple of sub MOA groups with this rifle at 525 yards using the 300gr Sierra BT and RL 17, yet it is still good for close up work as well.

I have the 375 Ruger Guide gun with the same scope with Alaskan Arms quick disconnect rings. My loads is a 300gr. Nosler Accubond and a Woodleigh 350gr. PP bullets using RL17. Both are sub MOA loads. Getting an average 2590fps. with the 300gr. Accubonds and 2391fps. with the Woodleigh 350gr. PP.

I have a nikon monarch on both my dg rifles and I love them. My 416 has a 1-4 and my 375 H&H has a 2-7. I love nikon glass!

Leupold VX6 is what I put on my Ruger 416 Guide Gun. It has the custom dial system fir long range shots.

I am a complete convert to the Leupold VX6 line, especially with the CDS and firedot option. Probably the best glass for the price out there.

I like more magnification. With a scope like the 2-12x42, you get the low power of the small optics, with the ability to dial up the magnification for shots at longer ranges. That 12 power combined with a larger objective is a tremendous advantage at 300 yards. The 2-12x42 is only 2 ounces heavier than the 1-6x24 and they are both the same price, so getting the bigger scope is a no-brainer for me.

My 375H&H is a do anything rifle (PG, elk, bear, hogs, moose). My 250gr TTSX loads leave the muzzle at about 2800 FPS with sub-MOA accuracy, so it shoots flatter and bucks the wind better than a 30-06. Why limit this load with low-power optics? I also have Warne quick release rings and can have the optic off and be on my irons in less than a minute.
