I know yall have seen a million of these but I'm in love with this thing so far and want to share. We have a hurricane coming in down here so pics were kinda hurried. This is a Winchester custom shop M70 375 H&H Super Express with CRF custom fitted brake (please tell me if anyone has seen one like this before) 3 leaf express sights trigger and action job and supposedly upgraded wood. The stock is a bit nicer than some but def not fancy but it fits me great and the recoil is much less than I expected. Overall I love this rifle even with only 30 rounds through it.

Congratulations and no I've not seen one quite like that before.

Nice

Congrats on aquiring the rifle. Not sure about the "1974" birthdate. I think the early 90's would be more accurate.

Really? Why is that? Idk how to look it up so everything is just what I was told by the seller.

I have seen that crazy brake one time before . . . On here. :-). I think you posted that before. Would hate to think they made two of those things. :)

Yeah I posted a pic of just the brake since I'd never seen one. Idk how effective it is but it doesn't increase the muzzle blast laterally like every other brake I've seen does.

I'm a bit up the road from you. Stay safe, and hopefully this storm will not affect you too much. Beautiful looking rifle. I would remove the brake, the 373 is not bad at all.

It does have a "G61&&&" serial number which from the little I've found actually is it at '69-70. All the newer years are 6 dugout numbers after the G.

I can’t make out the SN, but you can quickly look up the date of manufacture. What is going on at the seam under the front sight? It looks like the brake is threaded on then they mounted the sight on top if the union? Is this what you think?

That’s like my 416. I think mine was actually made in ‘94 IIRC. They may have had leftover actions that they retooled for CRF. :E Shrug:

Anyway good looking rifle. The reverse gill brake is an interesting looking thing. Probably to reduce some recoil but still keep the noise forward.

I don’t see how it is 69-70. Did you ask seller how he came up with the date?

Yeah I THINK they took a standard barrel with the sight attached to the custom shop then removed the sight threaded the barrel and reattached the sight. Idk I may be wrong. I like the looks I just don't understand the design but I assume the gunsmiths knew more than I do.

You're right I miscounted the numbers. That's odd that mine had a 5 digit number though, I know it's not our 64. The seller was good friends with the original owner and has a sister rifle with the normal rear site and no brake, said they were both 74's.

I am not sure about that. :-). Good looking gun. Seriously may be worth it to consider moving the front sight back a tad and recrowning. Then again, if you like it as is you are the only one who counts! Enjoy it.

I don’t know if Winchester can help, but shoot them an email or give them a call. I have seen some Frankenguns out there (pre-64s with post-64 bolts etc). I don’t know if they had separate SNs for custom shop guns but perhaps so.

That's what I was wondering, different numbers for the custom shop. That would explain the relatively low number on a post '64.

G61727 is the serial number. I looked at the same chart that RR 314 posted but the specific numbers aren't listed. I'll call Winchester tomorrow and see if they can tell me more. I love the rifle so it really don't matter much but u would like to know about it.
