Here's the bushbuck that I took with Venture South Outfitters in the KZN last year. Jerry Huffaker did the taxidermy and will be shipping it and my Nyala in a week or so. When I get him home I'll post a photo looking down from the top, to show the broken horn stub better. Ian Blakeway (PH) said that he broke it off 5 or 6 years ago and must have damaged the growth plate because of the way that the broken horn was growing.

I've taken two bushbuck in South Africa and both of them have had one horn.

Very interesting! Was the horn broken or bent back when the animal was young

Cool, good mount also. Forrest

Ian said that this buck was about 15 years old and broke the horn of at 5 or 6 years. The broken stub is about 6" long or so and very thick with a worn and rounded end. He teeth were worn to the gum lines. He had cataracts in both eyes and he was blind in the left eye.

This old guy was fighting for years with one horn and owned a brush filled valley with two does in it.

Year with one hone like that I'm sure he was a formidable foe where other males were concerned

Great trophy!

Very cool trophy! Thanks for sharing

That´s a very interesting trophy !

Nothing like an old warrior for a trophy.

Here he is from the top to show the deformation of the broken horn and another of him next to my Nyala

Very nice mounts but surprised you took the one with one horn. But, then again, interesting.

Very nice! I see you're also a member of Savage Shooter's...lol

Very unique! Makes for an interesting mount.
I saw a young bull elk that was similar in that one antler came forward around the front. I would have taken him, but I was in a 4 point restricted game unit. I spotted him again in the spring turkey season several miles and game units away.
Congratulations on such a special trophy.

During my outfitting days in Idaho twice we took really strange bulls One a heavy 8point with a skinny spike on the opposite side and years later a smallish 6 x 2. I think it's a cool bushbuck

I've shot two bushbuck in my life and both of them had one horn. Both of them were old bucks. Here's the other one.

I like them both @Fjold! To get two bushbucks like that seems a bit against the odds.

What a great way to kick off our 2025 hunting season in South Africa.

This beautiful Impala ram was taken at just over 300 yards, took a few steps and toppled over.

We are looking forward to the next week and a half of hunting with our first client of the year.

Do you have any more copies of African Dangerous Game Cartridges, Author: Pierre van der Walt ? I'm looking for one. Thanks for any information, John [redacted]
