New Arrangement Transit Permits Germany

Email that I received today from Sabrina Stock from Ordnungsamt Frankfurt am Main Transfer (Amt 32 email transfer@stadt-frankfurt.de)


Ladies and gentlemen,

Regarding the permits for travelling with weapons and ammunition there is a change in procedure.

No licence to take weapons or ammunition into or through Germany shall be required for weapons and ammunition taken on board ships or aircraft, kept in locked storage while within the territory of Germany, reported without delay to the competent supervisory authorities (customs) (including the manufacturer`s mark or trademark, caliber and serial number) and removed within one month from the territory of Germany.

This arrangement is valid immediately. Already applied and paid permit will be approved by me.

For the future you don’t need a permit for your hunters / shooters going to a hunting-trip / competition via Germany (travelling by airport Frankfurt), so that we won’t be working together frequently.

I hope this arrangement makes it easier for you J.

A few things I consider when booking a flight:
Cost:
Flight itself
Firearms Baggage fees (if extra)
Firearms Permit fees and the attendant PIA.

This announcement moves Germany back onto the list.

Agree with Brickburn. Germany was off the list, leaving me with only London as transit point. Never had a problem in London, but another transit point allows comparisons of fares. And likely will keep more places reasonable - put in unnecessary paperwork and the flights go to the competition. No way I would go through Amsterdam today, for example. So they lose money spent by law abiding firearms owners.

I hate paperwork with the best of them. But the German transit for was about as easy a form as there ever was. Perhaps the procedure got more onerous since I last traveled through there in 2011, but the one I used was name, address, firearm particulars, amount and type of ammo, fax it, have permit the next day. Never even a consideration in my travel plans.

I'm always happy to hear that there is one less form to deal with, but I'd rather deal with 100 German forms than one American check-in idiot who doesn't know what to do. At least the Germans have rules and follow them.

Would appreciate some advice on transiting through Germany (Lufthansa and then Condor) later this Fall. Will be flying through Munich on the way to Namibia in mid-September and plan on traveling with one rifle and ammunition. The way the connecting flights fell, I will be spending around 2+ days in the city (half of Monday, all of Tuesday, and most of Wednesday). What are my options for secure firearm storage during this interim period of time?

As a frequent flyer through Frankfurt with firearms they are a dream to deal with ....second only to Czech ......who are amazing ....

Can anyone advise if this is still correct (no transit permit required for Germany)?

I was just told by someone last week that a transit permit is required.

I've got a 10 1/2 hour layover in Frankfurt (thats what I get for paying for my flights with points instead of cash!) in June. Will be traveling direct from DFW to Frankfurt on Lufthansa, and then from Frankfurt to Johannesburg on South African Airways (both code shared through United).

I transmitted FRA in November of 2016 (3 months ago) with a firearm and nothing was required.

Which doesn't mean things can't change . . .

Sigh... looks like Germany has gone back to requiring a permit.... before seeing this thread I was told by a guy at a DSC meeting that he had to get a permit for Germany, so I sent an email to the airport in Frankfurt to ask..

It took them 3 weeks to reply.. but here is the message I got...




Dear Mr. West,

Hunters or people with weapons who pass Frankfurt airport have to apply a permit for the transport of their weapons. The permit includes outward and return trip via Frankfurt.

Attaced you find the application. Please fill out the attached application completely and make use of the technical terms for weapons and ammunition according to the german weapons law (Waffengesetz).

Also attaced you find a translation of the form. Please fill in the form without the translations.

Please list every weapon / ammuniton separate with serial no. and co. Please desist from filling in the form handwritten.

The fee for transfer licenses must be paid in advance. Proof of payment must be submitted with the application. The application cannot be processed without proof of payment.

For the permission you have to pay 20 € (twenty Euro) according to the § 50 of the german weapon law.

Processing the application/s can take up to four weeks. If the documents submitted for the application

are not submitted completely or they are not filled in correctly, the application will be rejected. You will

be requested to submit the documents again completely. The processing period can then take longer

than 4 weeks.

After the BS in Frankfurt last year of not allowing a plane to take off after 11:00 PM costing us 2 days hunting and now this BS again, I won't be flying through Frankfurt again.
