Hunting reports
Africa
1
Hello everybody! New member here, but a long time lurker. I'm heading out to South Africa in a few days for the first time. I would like to thank everyone for all the great info and tips I've picked up here over the past year. I will be hunting with frontier safaris, I booked their 12 animal package. More than anything I'm really looking forward to relaxing, getting to know this beautiful continent a little better, and enjoying a week of hunting.

Welcome aboard and have a great time!

Congrats, hope you have a great trip! What's your hunting package of 12 animals going to be?

Thank you, my hunting package will consist of the following. I'm most looking forward to the Kudu
  • Kudu
  • Gemsbuck
  • Blue -or- Black Wildebeest
  • Impala
  • Blesbuck
  • Duiker
  • Warthog
  • Cull Impala
  • Cull Blesbuck
  • White blesbuck
  • Mountain Reedbuck
  • Black Springbuck

That is a big hunt. I hope you enjoy it and are willing to share a nice report afterwards. Have fun and welcome to AH!
Thank you. It is their largest package available, but it made the most sense when compared to the other packages, from a financial standpoint. I plan on just going with the flow, no pressure type of hunt. I will definitely post a report afterwards.

Welcome to the site, I'll be following you down to Frontier in a couple of months.

Going with the flow is a good idea but that many animals in a short hunt is pushing things a little even in a great area. I'd try and concentrate on 5 or so that are your priorities and if you happen to get a chance at one of the others then go for it. The big thing is don't forget to relax a little and enjoy the area while you are hunting.

That's so cool, have you hunted with them before? Thank you for that advice, I definitely have an order of priority in the back of my mind. I know it's very ambitious, but it was cheaper for me to upgrade to that package than to add on a warthog to my previous package, which is one of the animals I'd really like, so I just went with the upgrade.

Welcome to the dark side, enjoy your first safari. Safe travels and shoot straight. Will be watching for a hunt report on your return.

I hope you have a great hunt. I’m preparing for a hunt myself and there is a lot to consider. Looking forward to a report from you when you get back.
John.

Safe travels, shoot straight, post pictures when you get back!!

I hunted with a outfitter that is perhaps 100 miles or so to the west of them.

Yes, it is nice to have those animals on your list that you really want but remember that this is hunting and not just showing up and shooting. My first trip there were a few days that I didn't pull the trigger and a couple where I managed to get 2 animals in one day. We hunted very hard and I managed to get my kudu on the last day of the hunt, I missed out on a warthog since we were just not seeing ones that were worth shooting. I came home 2 animals short on my list of 8 on a 10 day hunt.

Enjoy it and most importantly have fun its your time and the experience that counts.

Also you would love to have every animal you take mounted hold on and think about it before doing it. You can get them all skinned out ready to be mounted but you don't have to mount every one.
If you really must then do european mounts.

Taxidermy and especially shipping aint cheap these days.

remember to stop and look around now and then, enjoy the scenery, the experience
watch the sunset....with a drink in hand....its way more rewarding then pushing for that last animal!!!

regards

I wish you the best of luck on your hunt. Have fun and take it all in.

Currently doing a load development on a .404 Jeffrey... it's always surprising to load .423 caliber bullets into a .404 caliber rifle. But we love it when we get 400 Gr North Fork SS bullets to 2300 FPS, those should hammer down on buffalo. Next up are the Cutting Edge solids and then Raptors... load 200 rounds of ammo for the customer and on to the next gun!
To much to political shit, to little Africa :-)
Spending a few years hunting out west then back to Africa!

Hello. If you haven't already sold this rifle then I will purchase. Please advise. Thank you.

I doubt you are interested in any trades but I was getting ready to list a Sauer 404 3 barrel set in the 10-12 price range if your interested. It has the 404J, 30-06 and 6.5 Creedmoor barrel. Only the 30-06 had been shot and it has 7 rounds through it as I was working on breaking the barrel in. It also has both the synthetic thumbhole stock and somewhere between grade 3-5 non thumbhole stock
