In February my good friend Nick and I drove the four hours from my home on the East coast, through the mountains to the West coast for a Chamois hunt, the goal was to get him his first buck. Our previous trip had been unsuccessful so this time we were determined to locate a good one. We had a mixed bag with the weather but hunted hard and after seeing a good number of animals we finally came across the buck we were looking for. After a short stalk we got to within 150 yards so Nick let the bullet do the rest taking the animal with one good clean shot. We quickly made our way to the animal where we were very happy to find we had judged the animal correctly, well nearly we thought it was 10 inches but turned out to be an even 9 7/8 so Nick couldn't be happier to have his first trophy. I caped out the buck and Nick sorted the meat and we headed for home to celebrate with a well deserved beer!!! Nine months on and I have just finished mounting Nicks buck, another week drying and it will be ready for the finishing touches and good to be hung on the wall.
