I’m in the market for a day/night scope, thermal is in my budget unfortunately. Im trying to decide between the ATN4k and the sight mark Wraith. Does anyone have experience with these that could point me in the right direction?

Are you looking for a night vision scope or a thermal scope, because you listed one of each. Please do some detailed research, because that's a hell of a lot of money to not know EXACTLY what you are getting.

This is a thread about thermals...

This information is just the tip of the iceberg. Once you decide on Thermal vs NV, there are about a thousand other things to make your mind up on. What I would say is (in general) you will get what you pay for. Buy once, cry once. You never hear someone bitching about the price of scope (or gun, gear, binos...etc) when the animal is on the ground.

When I was looking at thermals, I was considering the Thermion XP50 and XQ50 for hunting purposes on a 300WM. I decided to hold off for a while until I really needed it. However there are other members here who have thermal scopes.

@gizmo reps ATN products. Ask him about products. I have one

I use ATN products and have for almost 10 years. I am an ATN dealer but I will tell you that we have 4 X-sights, 2 night vision rigs, and 1 thermal unit that we use extensively at the ranch for both our predator control and clients use. The X sight is a fantastic product and the absolute best on the market by a lot comparing apples to apples on the same type product. Very user friendly, they flat work, and have a ton of cool features non of the others have.
you are welcome to call me if you’d like to ask questions. I have 8 of them in stock and can ship anywhere in the country as well.

I own a sightmark wraith… it’s a great sight for the money.. but I agree with @gizmo .. for just a few bucks more you get a lot more features and options with the ATN xsight 4K…

Either will do you fine.. the wraith is a little cheaper.. but you get more bang for your buck out of the ATN IMO

I have the ATN Thor 4K. Only complaint is the sight-in process is closer to one box than one round (I am sure there is a bit of operator head space involved). But once it is dialed in, it is a great piece of technology. I can stand on our patio and observe the pecan orchard 300 yards away and determine if I am looking at deer or pigs. At midnight, deer good - pigs bad.

You may already know this but when sighting in the Thor’s use hand warmers. Being a thermal scope it pics you the heat from them. You can use them to mark your shot and where the bullseye is. I’ve gotten it down to two or three shots most of the time but I’ve mounted a ton of them. Also start out at 25 yards with a big board. That makes it easier for me. I’ll put a hand warmer on the bull then shoot my first round. I’ll go see where it is on the board and use a second hand warmer to zero the scope off of it. Then I back up to 100 and make my last adjustment. If found this system to be helpful for me but I went through a lot of rounds to figure it out. Lol, I’m a slow study.

Didn’t think of marking the shot with a second one. Thank you. Did figure out the initial 25 meter thing. As I say, once dialed in it is awesome technology.

I have a 24”x24” AR500 plate mounted at 100 yards. Shoot the center with a heavy rifle and it creates a hot spot to aim at.

Morning Rob, Any feeling for how the 300 H&H shoots? How's the barrel condition?

Hello. I see you hunted with Sampie recently. If you don't mind me asking, where did you hunt with him? Zim or SA? And was it with a bow? What did you hunt?

I am possibly going to book with him soon.
Currently doing a load development on a .404 Jeffrey... it's always surprising to load .423 caliber bullets into a .404 caliber rifle. But we love it when we get 400 Gr North Fork SS bullets to 2300 FPS, those should hammer down on buffalo. Next up are the Cutting Edge solids and then Raptors... load 200 rounds of ammo for the customer and on to the next gun!
