Norwegian Elk / Moose Hunting Film

Hi Everybody,

Often, I get ideas of good videos to watch as well as books to read based on recommendations from here. I am an unabashed YouTube devotee and have watched many films and subscribed to many channels that are hunting related, with amazing content and stories to tell.

A film I saw last night falls into the category of storytelling with great visuals; it is a Norwegian hunting documentary that showcases the Norwegian people and deeply ingrained hunting culture and respect for the outdoors. Coming from Australia where we are led to believe that only the relevant culture is that of our indigenous peoples and everything else is blasphemous; it is fantastic to see a country that respects their hunting traditions and actively try to pass this on to the next generation.

Th hunting church mass and hunting block ballot are interesting highlights.

If you have the time, I highly recommend that you pour yourself a glass of your favourite beverage, get comfortable and enjoy the film.

Norway is a country offering really good posibilities for hunting, fishing and shooting. Hunting is 99% for management and meat, and this is probably a big part of the reason it is accepted by a large portion of the population. But we see a shift towards a Disneyfication and we have a small but loud and quite smart antihunting movement.
The way to beat them is to get new people into the sport, and if one is to recruit only one person-mske sure it is a female!
As the rest of western Europe we are heading for trouble, "green change", immigration, more control and less freedom. For Norway there is an added issue with the economy going downhill.

Those spartan hunting camps in the Norwegian woods, could be our "Wapiti" camps here in Colorado. I personally can really relate, except when they bring a motorized "game cart" to retrieve the elk (moose). LOL

Continuing on with the Norwegian hunting film theme, another dropped in my suggested feed that is equally wonderful and probably a bit better in content. It shows so much more of what is on offer in what is fast becoming my new favourite country.

The beautiful people, environment and outdoor opportunities of Norway:

Coming from the tropical north of Australia I am fascinated by snow, cold weather, pine forests and amazing lakes / rivers that are crocodile free.

The hunting and fishing here is pretty good but the gorgeous country and weather of Norway is calling.

Made before wolf lovers and arazi rewildera started to enact their psychotic beliefs here fully .

Many fine moose areas are sadly no longer more in number of moose or quality .

May I ask a obvious but probably stupid question.

You are in the woods, game has been decimated from the reintroduction of a predator species that they have not lived with for many years, decades or generations.

You are the apex predator with your rifle, why do you not control the numbers and maintain the balance of nature.

Is it a fear of breaking game laws, difficulty in lining up a wolf in the scope or something else that stops you from solving the problem? This is something that I wanted to ask in the wolf reintroduction thread but may as well ask the hunters here who live with this problem.

The wolfs are protected, shooting one will send you to prison for +/- a year.

The beast are marked and tagged and tracked to such extent that one can tell that exactly 13 of them disappeared last winter (in addition to the ones they know what happened with). Guess it is all about shot,showel,silence.

There is some hunting quota and some are shot legally every year.
My only hope is windpower, anything in the way of windmills has to go...

Maybe not an option in highly managed populations but certainly an option in quieter backwoods.

I know that we manage some predators locally that are becoming a nuisance or outright dangerous, not waiting for a Park Ranger bureaucrat to solve an issue they can not (or will not) see.
