I’ve had this thing for Oberndorf mausers for some time now. I mean, if you don’t, something has to be wrong with you
I like the idea of both a collector or a project gun.
I have a 1924-25 type A in 30-06 that has been modified, but it was well done and I haven’t had the heart to do a full project build on it.
Then late last week I got a tip that an Oberndorf project action might be available. An exchange of emails and a phone call later and this beauty will be in the mail later this week.
A 1913 action in the white with matching serial numbers, floorplate lever, double set triggers and unmolested bolt and receiver tops. Happy days!
Now comes the fun of pouring over parts and custom rifles on the web for ideas.

Wow! Where did you find that beauty?!

Lots of possibilities. Looking forward to seeing updates along the way.

Hi BC,

Very nice Intermediate lenght action!!! The same action Mauser used for their Original Sporting 7 mm Mauser. And Rigby as well!

Congratulations!

It screams 7x57!

100%

It is begging to be mated with a slender, precision made 7x57 chambered barrel and a beautifully figured walnut stock…

Oh, I know. I've been reading Jon Speed a couple times a day since I bought it.

What a gem you have found !
My Churchill Gun Makers Model Deluxe in 7x57mm Mauser was built on a 1943 army surplus Original DWM Mauser Model 98 Oberndorf action.

Why don't you build either a lovely 7x57mm, 8x57mm or 9.3x62mm Mauser on it ? Douglas Premium Hexagonal barrel, French walnut stock, black ebony fore end tip, India rubber recoil pad.

Very nice action and very nice to be in that stage of choosing what to make of it. For myself I am now in the process of waiting (which feels far to long:giggle:) on my custom rifle to be finished. It is also built on a Mauser action, but in my case it is a action made by DWM.

Ahhh, an hexagonal barrel and rust blue. A work of art that would be for sure

1-8 twist for heavier bullets .
And look for a secondhand German or Austrian scope of done kind that will suit it well .

Thanks everyone for the kind words and suggestions. Might be a while before the project gets rolling, little tapped out just returning from my first safari.
But I have a smile on my face!

I would go with the 9.3x62

Hi all,

It is an intermediate lenght action! Not long enough for a 9,3x62!! A nonsense to me.
It is the action Mauser used for their factory sporting 7 mm Mausers since its start, including the great Rigby Mauser 7 mm.
This action should be great, first, for the 7x57, of course, but also for the 6,5x55, 257 Roberts, 6 mm Remington without touch almost nothing for perfect cartridge feeding.

Well, you have to know what I would have it chambered in! Very, very nice, congratulations.

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
