Of these, which one?

Assuming you have a choice, which one (below) should a hunter take based on 1) Not common to see good one 2) hard to hunt specially 3) Unlikly to see on future safaris due to their range and 4) Just really interesting cool trophy ro take. Of these, which would you choose and why?

But from my personal experience if I had to answer that specific question, it would be Wart Hog. However a great Mountain Reedbuck was the first African animal I took and it was not on any list... I had told my PH I would be interested in taking anything that was to good to pass up as long at it was an indigenous animal. Five minutes into our first day hunting he stopped and asked if I was serious, I said yes, he said bring your gun and lets go shoot this Mountain Reedbuck

I’d also check with your PH on what is common/uncommon in the area(s) you will be hunting.

With that said, small antelope are really neat.

with that being said I also agree with brickburn shoot the mtn rhebuck if he is good in a hrt beat the others on your list very common and easy to get.

The most difficult (more an availability and habitat issue than anything) is the mountain rhebuck. The others are relatively common and are available all over Southern Africa.

Personal preference from that list would be the Mountain Rhebuck because I've never hunted one before.
Otherwise I would never turn down a good Impala and Warthog hunting is always very good fun.

The rest are very common animals that may be found anywhere.

Mtn reedbuck the least common, so a good choice. But really good Tuskers are becoming more rare. I really like big impala as well.

I had my top three priorities: bufallo, warthog and kudu. After that everything was gravy. I didn’t even think of taking a waterbuck, but as I key this, his mount is looking over my right shoulder. Take what opportunities present themselves.

I agree taking what africa gives is a good idea. But ph's still like a bit of direction and for me at least, the pot for trophy fees is not bottomless. Having a flexible wish list is a good idea in my humble view.

Well, what are we talking about here? There is no such thing as a Mountain Rhebuck...

Are we talking Mountain REEDBUCK ?

Or Vaal RHEBUCK ?

Interestingly, and names not withstanding, the Vaal Rhebuck (or Vaal Rhebok, or Grey Rhebok) is actually the one that leaves in the higher mountains and that is by far a more challenging trophy than the Mountain Reedbuck that is fairly easy to hunt at much lower elevation...

Hopefully, come end of July, I will be able to show you my own Vaal Rhebok picture, because I am booked for a 12 days hunt in Eastern Cape that includes several days after a Vaali in the Sneeuberg Mountains...

To answer dmyers's question: Vaal Rhebok! By a wide mile margin...

Actually Mountain Reedbuck are quite common in most of eastern South Africa from Eastern Cape to Botswana...

Vaal Rhebok are the needle in the haystack (see post above)
