I am thinking of putting a Vortex Viper PST 1-6x24 optic on my 375 H&H, has anyone used this optic? Feedback appreciated.

I’m sorry but I am not a Vortex fan. I have a Leupold VX6 2-12X on my Ruger .375 Ruger and a Swarovski Z8i 1.7-13.3X42 on my Blaser R8 .375 Ruger. I want more magnification in general. The 2X or 1.7X have not hindered me in any way. The 2X was used on a leopard charge so I know about stress situations and scopes. Then on the other hand the 12-13X on the top end give me the versatility to make most any practical shot.
Regards,
Philip

I have shot a number of Vortex scopes and like some Vipers and Razors and no so much the entry level below vipers. I have one of the scopes you mentioned on a 9.3x62 and it has held zero and has about 140 rounds through it with this Scope. It is a good dark timber/bushveld scope where shots are 200 and under.

I do believe for a bit more money there are better optics available, I agree with @Philip Glass on the VX6 and Swarovski, both are a better scope.

What is it about them that you don't like? For long distance shooting (paper punching), 600+ yards, I have no problem dropping money on high quality glass. For hunting though where I'm shooting less than 300 yards, I have a hard time spend $2 or 3K on glass. I should mention Vortex gives me a very generous 50% discount for military/law enforcement.

I have a Trijicon Accupoint 1-6x24 mounted on my CZ-375 H&H, and I like it. This is the set up I'm taking to Africa in less than two months. Going to hunt plains game and a lioness. Great scope, clear, and doesn't break the bank specially when your life is on the line with a pissed off dangerous animal. A lioness in my case. :)

Has anyone used a 3.5x18 Swarovski on their 375 h&h in Africa? I’m considering buying two for me and my son.

Parallax adjustment on a hunting scope is a serious handicap, especially on a big bore. The Z5 3,5-18x44 is a great scope. Inhave one on a Tikka CTR .308.

On a .375 go for something simple. 1-6; 1-8; 2-12; 2,5-10 etc. I have a 2,5-10 Habicht on my .375 Ruger, and a Z6 1-6 on my .416 Ruger. Its a match made in heaven

My .375 wears a leupold hd5 2-10 with illuminated crosshair. Have had to africa 3 times now. Absolutely love it. If you can be patient they do go on sale regularly and can be had for a good bit under 1K.

I have a S&B 3-12 on my 375. It is a bit overkill and may still go with a 1x6 for buff. I'm a Vortex fan in a sense where you get a good product for what you pay for. That said I wouldn't screw around with lower end Vortex on a DG rifle, unless you don't plan to hunt DG with it.

I have a Vortex Viper HS 2.5-10 on a slug rifle. Max shot distance where I hunt with that is under 200 yards and I find it suits the purpose

I have that exact scope on my Win Mod 70 375 H&H and it's excellent! Vortex makes a wide range of optics from dirt cheap low-end, to world-class military grade precision. I think people often confuse the low-end kit with other tiers in their line, lumping them all together....which is a mistake. Their Razor and Viper PST level optics are excellent. The dot on this PST is sharp and bright even in direct sunlight, battery life is wonderful and the adjustments are solid and repeatable. I used QRW Leupold steel rings + bases and it's been rock solid. This 2018 vintage Mod 70/scope combo has proven to be incredibly accurate and easy to use. Plenty of great scopes for this type of rifle, but don't overlook this one.

They are over hyped and over promoted IMO. Most folks who like them have never owned a VX6 or a Z8 so they have no idea what they are comparing to. As for price I just bought a very nice VX5 for around $800 As a budget scope.
it is nice to get big discount like that but 50%? Wow!
to each his own and I certainly don’t want to discourage anyone from getting what they like. I’m glad they work well for you.

I haven't bought one yet, I was just wondering what people thought of them. For $450 I will likely get it, but wanted to know what else people are using.

I have operated optics and night vision scopes from all quality manufacturers for many years. This offer from Vortex is amazing given its value. Sharp from edge to edge, great tracking.

Razor and Viper have very reputations apparently and $1 for a new viper PST is a smoking deal! The T shirt they are sending is $449  Should get it Tuesday and I'll report back on it.

We’ll need a hunt report

You bet (y)

Mine wears a 1.5-5x20mm for more that 20 years now and 700+ full power loads without a hiccup.

For me it is the other way round, to hunt I want equipment I can trust, when punching hole in paper-well, a failing scope isnt really a problem...
And trust me, the fantatic Vortex warranty (yes it is fantastic!) dosent realy matter when you hunt goes south due to a failed scope. Guess how I know..
