PAPER TUNE.jpg

The attached photo shows the importance of paper tuning your bow. I normally paper tune my rig 2X a year, or more, especially if there has been any changes, from string replacement, nocking points, changing arrow head weight, and even if I change the draw weight by as little as 2 pounds. Looking at the pic you can see it took me 7 arrows and 6 adjustments to go from a left/up tear to a perfect bullet hole.
You can view instructions on how to paper tune here http://www.eastonarchery.com/img/downloads/software/tuning_guide.pdf
I then re-sighted my bow with field points. After that I screwed on a couple of broad-heads. This is where the rubber meets the road. If your bow is not perfectly tuned it will show up as poor arrow flight, causing your arrows to impact much differently than your field points. Because of the bullet holes, my broad-heads hit exactly the same as my field points. I am now confident I will not miss unless a little eland fever, gemsbuck fever, kudu fever, zebra fever, wildebeest fever, impala fever, warthog fever, jackel fever, red hartebeast fever, waterbuck fever and maybe even some other fever if it comes into range.

Africa is now only 15 days away. Tic...tic..tic..

Thanks Bob. I am hunting with Kanana Safaris in Botswana. I will be archery only after whatever mature species gives me a good shot. Kudu, Waterbuck, Eland, Gemsbok, Blue/Black Wildebeest, Zebra, Impala, Warthog...any will do fine as long as I can get a good shot. Not after any record book just want to have fun.

I am an African virgin. No expectations, no pre-conceived notions. I just want to hunt hard and have fun. I really enjoy a challenge and will post a report and pics after my return. Enjoy every second - that I will. Thanks bluey.

Thanks buddy. I am already lucky no matter what the end result of my hunt. Just the chance to go is overwhelming.

You've got the right idea Stretch, inches don't mean much as long as your enjoying what your doing. I can't tell you how many times I've had days with no animals in the salt but the memory of the day was the trophy itself! Have a Great hunt I'll be standing by for the report.

Diligence pays off. Good luck stretch. Im sure you will have a blast!

I am told my middle name is persistence. Thanks Diamondhitch. I appreciate the gesture of fortuity.

I am sure you will have a great time Stretch.
I came home from my stalking bowhunt with KMG Hunting Safaris in Eastern Cape yesterday.

I did get some animals. No record book animals, but that was not what I was looking for either :)
Had some bad luck, but that is how it is sometimes and now I need to save up more money to go back and continue what I couldn't finish on this hunt :)

Btw, I never paper tune my bow. I only bare shaft and broad head tune.
In my opinion is bare shaft tuning the most reliable way to tune your bow.

Have lots of fun and I am looking forward to your report :)

I agree - "bare shaft tuning" is another excellent way to tune your equipment. The point is that, whatever method, this is an essential step that one needs to take in order to get the best performance from your equipment.

Glad to hear you has "some luck" on your adventure. Heck, when I get to go hunting, I consider that lucky in itself.
I like your comment "and now I need to save up more money to go back and continue what I couldn't finish on this hunt" Great reason to plan the next adventure.

Thanks for the good wishes Buddy, Tic..tic... tic...

Heading out the door to my first African experience at Kanana Safaris in Botswana. It has been a long wait.... I want to say thanks to all the AH members for providing me with valuable information that has made it so much easier for me to plan this adventure. A nicer more pleasurable bunch of people I could not have had the good fortune to lean on.

Thanks Jerome for giving us/me, a place to share this wealth of knowledge.

travel well stretch , hunt hard , return safe ,most of all enjoy the experince

Good luck on the hunt!! Have a great time!

Good luck and savor the moment, it is an eternity in coming then flashes by in the blink of an eye.

Good luck to you!
AS for paper tunning. I set my rest up for center and my nock height for where I like it and then role with it. I am not a believer in chasing paper. while it's great for some and works for a lot of people the problems aren't in the setup but in the hand of the person holding the bow.

unless I broadhead tune or paper tune I can'nt get my field points and broadheads to to group the same.

Chopped up the whole thing as I kept hitting the 240 character limit...
