hi i was wondering if anyone can help, we are looking for a tracking device we can have our game scouts wear that records their movements while on patrol, that we can then down load to check they have been where they are supposed to have been while patrolling. thanks for any info mike

Most backtrack GPS's have a function where you can download the actual movement to your computer. It also works to tie a GPS dog collar to their belts and just follow the movement,you can not download this ,though.

dog collar sounds good wonder if they have ones that you can down load info from . want them as easy as poss and where they cant bugger around with them and break them.....sure you know what i mean

Try and google canicom they manufacture the collars, I have been told that the choking collar also have a good use in the anti poaching industry.

SPOT transmitters can show real time on any computer or smart phone where the device is. They transmit coordinates every 10 minutes and will display the last 50 transmissions. Can also be used as an emergeny transmitter and will tansmit a pre-detemined text message/email at the press of a button.

They do require a subscription though.

I found out that SPOT doesn't work in Africa. According to their coverage map it's the only inhabited place on the planet it doesn't work. Phoned their customer service line to ask why and the guy gave me some bull about topography. Not sure how the landscape in Africa would inhibit satellites when areas that contain the tallest mountains in the world have a 99% connection rate.

Thuraya Sat sleeves that turn regular Iphones into sat phones work everywhere except NA because of user agreements, maybe it is the same with SPOT in Africa.

That's what I was thinking. It's unfortunate the SPOT would be a handy little device over there.
