I know this will be wildly unpopular with some people but I figured I would put the information out there. I found what I think is a great red dot mounting solution for the Kreighoff. I called them about this a long time ago and I had already acquired the RMR mount that clamps to the rear scope base so I have not actually installed it on my rifle yet but when he called.me and said they had a batch ready I went ahead and purchased one. I think it presents the lowest/most secure mounting option for a red dot on a double. You can probably even cowitness the iron sights.

That mount would work fine, i am using the Trijicon RM58 mount that clamps to the existing rear mount with a 1moa RMR and really like how well it works. But can appreciate from a form and function perspective of using any red dot (Like a aimpoint). Thanks for sharing the link to another option that is out there.

I run that same RM58. I really like it as well, that's why I never installed this one. I found the RM58 between when I talked to this guy and when they actually got them made. I figured there was no need to mess with my regulation since the RM58 works so well on mine, if I ever get another set of barrels made though I will probably send them that pic rail and have them install it since I have it in hand now. It would provide a ton of options

I love my aimpoints! Looks like that is a solid mount. Think the RMR is going to get you the lowest possible dot. Trijicon just came out with a RCR (Ruggedized Closed Reflex). It has some updated technology I'm excited about.

While I cannot speak to the designer of this solutions eternal soul, it doesn't look promising he'll escape damnation.

The incredible irony in all of this is he had everything he needed already on the gun. He had a $2400 EAW pivot mount built into the rib already. Instead of just getting an RMR pivot mount from EAW, Heninberger, or Rechnagel, he literally milled out the rear mount, destroying a $2400 masterpiece, neutering its ability to use a scope ever again, and added a ghastly picattinny to the rear that is compatible with one low-end red dot that is subject to a design change at any time that may not work so well in the future.

Not a fan. I mean no offense, but I question the judgment of the gunsmith greatly.

I agree that Picatinnys are unattractive. It does seem well thought out though if one wants to use that red dot. And it does claim to be open sights friendly.

Looks like all he did was make a base that would work with the rib as is. No further alterations. It doesn’t look like he milled out anything.. So in order to use a scope one just needs to swap out bases.
Unless I’m missing something?

But why not mount a quick detachable red dot scope..?

Actually they just backed out the screws and removed the rear scope mount and then installed a new mount that was matched to fit the slot there the old one was. The original scope mount can just be reinstalled.

Yes, but you're assuming that the rear scope mount was the same size as the Pic rail. Maybe it was, maybe it wasn't. It could have just been a rebate inside the rib, avoiding removing the original rib the way this one did.

But there is no standard for the minimum depth a Pic optic. Did you see that aimpoint barely grabs the pic rail? There is no guarantee the next edition of it doesn't sit down another .100" in which case it wouldn't work and it would bump into the barrels.

They make RMR mounts that use only the front pivot ring. They make RMR mounts that use the front pivot and the rear base for even better connection. They make RMR mounts that can grip right onto a rebate in the rib between the front and rear. Lots of RMR mounts made in Germany that would avoid the destruction of the finest scope mount that was already installed.

Whatever makes you feel better bro.

After having JJ groove my rib for my red dot I am really not liking these other mount options. Don’t take this wrong, but does no one know about grooving the rib on a double besides JJ? Why do we only see the invasive styles?
Regards
Philip

This mount is a separate piece, so the original scope base is unaltered, you just remove the two screws and take out the original block where the scope base goes and then screw this picatinny rail in that replaces the original block. You can then later remove the pic rail and replace it with the original block. This avoids having to permanently alter the weapon.

That is correct. You just remove the screws and pull out one block and pop in the other.

They didn’t cut anything out. The newer Krieghoffs have a removable block in the back. Two screws and it’s back to factory original.

Here's a pic of the removeable block on my 470 K-Gun.View attachment 549678

Great. So I concede it isn’t permenantly damaged. But back to the question, why destroy the utility of the excellent original mounts to install an RMR the wrong way, when you can keep what is correct and still add an RMR?

I believe it was made as an option to mount an Aimpoint. RMR are great until it rains, or severely dusty. Then the Aimpoint will shine. Like I mentioned above, Trijicon now has a closed emitter, even better you access the battery like an SRO. Same footprint as an RMR.
