I'll be going on my first hunt in South Africa this coming May and will be looking for a hotel for the day that I arrive and the day before I leave the country. Could any of you recommend a good hotel?

I don't need a 5 star one but a nice place to get some rest and a good meal after my flight down there and before I leave.

Thanks..

I stayed at the Victoria & Alfred Guest House . Nice colonial feel. Great service, great breakfast, nice clean rooms and reasonable rates. Also just minutes from the airport. I will be staying there again in 2015.

gday jim p
we stated at fifth avenue guesthouse, only for one night unfortunately
it was quiet , relaxing. and close to everything .
the next morning the owner had breaky with us ,and left numbers to contact him if we needed any help or advice after we left ,to travel down to cape town .
the double room ,including breakfast was under a 100 bucks .
the service and accomodations were second to none ...
poet elisebeth was a friendly place all round , mate
you will love it ..........

@JimP there is the Boardwalk Hotel, nice and close to the Airport and beach, nice restuarants etc. I will be staying there and have on a few occasions. Casino too if you like that type of thing.
There is also the Courtyard hotel, been there a few times, also on the beach front.
Beach hotel is also okay, bit old.

You have to go have a steak at the Coachman restuarant or some seafood at the Oyster Catcher, better for lunch and the view in the harbour.

You will have a good hunt with Chris, hope he wears shoes to the airport:D

Zungah Safaris from the middle part of May to the end of the month.

Sorry JimP, I wasn't clear. Loodt (Tootabi) operates near PE and I was just tagging him so he'd see this. I also forgot he is out in the bush, so he may be slower to answer than normal.

Thank you Royal, still in the bush. Have been busy hunting, as our 2015 season has kicked off with a bang from the 5th of January already.

@JimP you are most welcome to get in contact with me and I can recommend a dozen for you. Depending on what your needs may be I can recommend from 5 Star Game Reserves to Sea side hotels and guest houses.

Feel free to check out www.tripadvisor.com and search for Port Elizabeth accommodation under the category that suits your needs, and pocket the best.

Beautiful hotels on the beachfront in Port Elizabeth includes;

  • Radisson Blue (recommended)
  • Summerstrand Hotel
  • Paxton Hotel
  • Holiday Inn
  • Boardwalk Sun International
  • City Lodge
  • Beach Lodge (Recommended)
  • Pine Lodge
  • Town Lodge
  • The Marine Hotel (recommended)
  • and many many more...

PLEASE DO CONTACT ME BEFORE YOU BOOK, I might just know of something or give advise from there on what to do or how to proceed, also regarding location etc.

All the best with your safari, and I trust you will have the time of your life!

Thanks for the replies.

All we are looking for is a place to get a good nights rest before our safari begins the next day after our long flight over. That along with a night stay before we leave at the end of the trip.

tripadvisor.com is a great resource for accommodations.

In that case take The Beach Hotel. You will not be dissapointed.

Stayed at Boardwalk, hit the casino, took Marius and Kim to dinner at Coachman (I believe it was??) Had Ostrich (Delicious!!) Wonderful to walk the beach and enjoy yuor first or last day on the Eastern Cape!

If you stay at the beachfront, try http://www.ginger-restaurant.co.za/. Never been disappointed there. Had carpaccio of warthog, crocodile and Springbuck/kudu or something. Amazing stuff :) Been there 5-6 times. Always great.

Thanks for the suggestions. I purchased my plane tickets yesterday and now I just need to wait on two of the others that are going on the safari also before I book some rooms. I can't wait until I get into the air and headed that way.

Guest houses in SA are, by far, the best deal - price, comfort, quiet, etc..

City Lodge - on the shorefront - stayed there several times love the place and not expensive for what it is.

Also if staying there Barneys across the street - 300 yards away - a real locals bar - met a few PH#s and their guests in there sundowners while the Indian ocean laps your feet.

Best beef steaks I have tasted on the east coast
Amazing place to stay

I looked at the web page for City Lodge and right now it is on the short list.

Forgot to mention that I always stay at 47 guest house. They offer self catering or B&B. In summerstrand, short walk from the beachfront.

I have stayed there for a combined probably 4 weeks. And have a lot of friends and family. The prices are cheap to say the least. Reckon the people who run it as friends :) I like to braai myself when staying for a bit. I can also host my friends there.

I will be heading to Port Elizabeth toward the end of February 2025. Does anyone have any updates to local accommodations?

Everyone always thinks about the worst thing that can happen, maybe ask yourself what's the best outcome that could happen?
