Question please…For my 470 Nitro using 500 grain solids with RL 15.5 at 84 grains I get 0.6 MOA at 50 yards. When I move to softs I don’t get this. Should I move up or down in powder grains? As always thanks for help!!!

Are you measuring the muzzle velocity? Is it the same for both bullet types?
Are the softs and solids the same brand with same metal, i.e. copper or lead core (for the softs)?
Are you shooting softs and solids with the same length of bearing surface?
--- Hint: Cutting Edge Safari Raptors and Solids have this.

Great question my friend! My solids are CEB my softs are Barnes

Bolt gun or double.

Bolt gun:

Depends on where your bullets are hitting.
Hitting high and wide.....reduce your powder charge.
Hitting low......increase your powder charge.
Start by decreasing or increasing your powder charge by 2 grains. Then work your way down or up by .3 grains.

Double Rifle:

You can try the same as above.

But not sure how your regulation.

500 gr CEB solid and 460 gr CEB Raptor.

Reduce powder charge by one gr for lighter bullet.

Problem solved!

Agreed

I know Woodleigh recommend a slightly lighter charge with their FMJ solids. In my 458 I believe I run 2gn less with the solid.

I sight in with the soft - at the ranges you'll be needing a solid, grouping is less vital in my books. But regardless, they are pretty close to each other.

POI can change with bullet seating depth, powder charge, powder type, and crimp.

Time to experiment.

My thinking:
Chrono both loads to start.

Adjust powder charge to achieve similar speeds.

Seating depth would be next to try.

Possibly changing powder would be next.

Cutting Edge did the work for you

My .416 Taylor with 400 grain cutting edge solids and 370 safari raptors. Hit the same POI

I did not load them. The expert loader took a grain of two out of the Raptor load.

After these 3 solids and 3 Raptors. I adjusted the windage

And here are the results
