Would anybody be able to measure the length of the magazine follower in your pre-64 Model 70 in .300 H&H? This rifle is new to me, and was given to me by a very good friend. Unfortunately it often doesn't feed the last cartridge from the magazine properly, and I think I've got it narrowed down to it having a standard length follower rather than a long or magnum length. The follower in my rifle measures 3.4" and it is able to move front to back a good bit in the magazine box.
The last round often but not always pops up out of the magazine just before the extractor gets control of the cartridge, so it "push feeds" into the chamber, and the extractor is then snapped over the rim of the cartridge when the bolt is closed. The second round in a full magazine, which feeds from the same side, never does this. If anyone knows of other reasons this might be happening, please feel free to chime in. Thanks in advance for your help!
