Hi Gents
Very excited to share views; opinions; lessons and knowledge.
I have started hunting at a very young age on the usual birds and foul. Worked my way up to antelope from there. Have been brought up to eat what I shoot so nothing wasted from my side.
I do not get to hunt close to as much as I would like to. Lots of guys in our beautiful country South Africa get the privilege of hunting a lot. Goes with the countries history.
I always hunt with my father whom has taught me all I know. I have two amazing lads I cannot wait to pass it onto when they are older. It is a family passion.
Normally I hunt with my fathers rifles or the farm rifles available but have now been blessed with a rifle from my father. One day he approached us (4 boys) and said " you guys must pick any calibre you want, I will pick the make and buy you each a rifle; scope; safe and pay for your licensing." WOW!
I have only hunted bush veld environments and thought about this quite a while. "First rifle" "Africa" "bush"
Needless to say I have picked a 375 H&H. I am used to shooting with my fathers 9.3x62 on most occasions and stick to neck and head shots to save meat. I know it is considered risky but with a good walk and stalk I have never had an animal take a pace from where it stands when taking these shots. Knowing when it will be risky is a fine line but a man knows his limits and should not push them at the risk of making an animal suffer. When we had a 7x57 gearbox was still ok to shoot.
So now that I have my rifle coming I have joined the group to find out what I can and learn to the best of my abilities.
I am going to get a reloading kit in December to allow for ammo costs to be better.
I urgently want to join shooting groups and competitions so I hope I am in the right place.
