That is great news! We have flown this route twice. No better way to go to Namibia from the US in my opinion. We had a long layover, so we booked a room at the Oryx hotel that is inside security. We enjoyed a great rest and a hot shower between connections.

Safe travels

You can also purchase a pass to Qatar lounge, showers, and lay down rest area, food and drinks .
If I have some guys flying coach how much does a pass to the business class lounge usually cost? I actually would like a layover as I’ve had such good connections I’ve not gotten to enjoy DOH. I’ll finally get a layover (8hrs) on the way back from Tanzania later this year.

Affordable: I was in DOHA last Sept, Oryx Lounge - nice, walk-in rate on exchange around $50 & I believe, 3 or 4-hrs stay but don’t quote me on the time …

I really enjoyed Qatari airlines. But this is what we ran into in May of 2021. Luckily they headed elsewhere and not on our flight, I definitely felt under protected. This is in the Doha airport which is very nice but all but 1 shop was closed . I understand that it is pretty much back to normal.

We opted for the lounge versus the hotel, a big savings. Was it the same as a hotel room? No, but it was worth the savings. Quiet rooms with full recliners, great food and all you could eat, private showers, so it was worth it to us. I'd do it again.

Qatar is my favorite airline. I flew the Doha to Windhoek route the last time I hunted in Namibia. Great experience. Lufthansa is supposed to begin flights from St. Louis (near my home) to Frankfurt soon. That’s another interesting option for me. One airline the whole way.

MSP offered flights to Frankfort but I never cared for the 8 hour layover

Qatar Airlines will resume flights to Windhoek in June. They will start with 3 days a week and then add more in time. I am hoping to take this route next year. Have you flown Qatar to Namibia?

Yes sir. I flew Qatar in 2019 to Windhoek and have to say it was/is the best airline I've flown on to get to Namibia. Service was great. I'll probably use them again when I go back next year.

I was in DOH in August and all was normal.

Lufthansa is flying to Windhoek? It is good to be on one airline for sure. I am sure by next year there will be many options.

I will travel to Namibia with a safari group next June and then head to the EC with another. So I’ll fly to Windhoek and hunt then take Airlink to JNB-PLZ to hunt there and then depart for home from JNB.
This all hinges on the Windhoek flight becoming a daily flight or at least matching up with my departure and arrival schedule. Right now at three days a week it does not. Fingers crossed!

Rick did you fly coach or business? I am always interested to hear others experiences.

That would be nice. They have a pool, hot tub, and gym at the hotel. I think you can buy a pass even if you are not staying at the hotel. So much to explore!

When we checked in there were people ahead of us getting the spa/pool pass. Not sure of the cost. We went to our rooms and crashed. The rooms are dark and quiet. They gave us a wakeup call and we showered and went to the lounge to eat. Great pit stop before continuing our journey.

Hello there. I flew coach. Not well heeled enough to go business, LOL. Anyway the service was outstanding. Seats were roomy and comfortable (at least to me) and the food was the best I've had on a flight. Swore I'd never eat another meal on Delta if I'm ever unfortunate enough to fly with them again. I've no complaints. Hope this is helpful.

Good Morning x84958
I have read your post about Jamy Traut and your hunt in Caprivi. I am planning such a hunt for 2026, Oct with Jamy.
Just a question , because I will combine Caprivi and Panorama for PG, is the daily rate the same the week long, I mean the one for Caprivi or when in Panorama it will be a PG rate ?
thank you and congrats for your story.
Best regards
Philippe from France

Hello Doug,
I am Philippe from France and plan to go hunting Caprivi in 2026, Oct.
I have read on AH you had some time in Vic Falls after hunting. May I ask you with whom you have planned / organized the Chobe NP tour and the different visits. (with my GF we will have 4 days and 3 nights there)
Thank in advance, I will appreciate your response.
Merci
Philippe
