Up for sale is a rare Custom Shop Winchester Model 70 in .416 Remington Magnum. This style of rifle was called the Custom African Express and was made in the Custom Shop only from 1999-2006. It features many upgrades above that of the standard Safari Express including a 24” Krieger cut rifled barrel, drop box style semi fancy English walnut express style stock with ebony forend tip, ebony grip cap and shadowline cheekpiece, hand cut 22 LPI checkering, hand rubbed oil finish, 4 round capacity drop magazine with bottom metal, hand tuned action with beautifully jeweled bolt, and express sights with three leaf rear and threaded barrel for muzzlebrake with thread protector. Overall, this is the ultimate incarnation of an African Safari rifle as envisioned by the long gone Winchester Custom Shop.
This gun has one of the smoothest actions I have felt on it and is, of course, controlled round feed with full claw extractor. I have shot it a very few times (5-10 rds) before putting it up in the safe so it is in like new condition except for just a few extremely minor dings in the stock from moving in/out of the safe. It is currently wearing a Swarovski PH 1-4x24mm scope with the Circle Dot #24 reticle. And includes all factory paperwork as well the Winchester Factory letter as shown.
It is very difficult for me to let this rifle go as it is a beautiful safari rifle and quite rare. In fact, I have not seen one of the Custom Africans for sale in a few years and I am always on the lookout. I have another M70 Custom African Express just like this one and took it to Africa in 2014 for a Lion and Cape Buffalo hunt and it performed very well and was a joy to hunt with. I have a Leopard hunt booked for this year and I don’t really need two of these same rifles so some sacrifices must be made. You absolutely will not be disappointed with this rifle.
Asking price for everything is $5500 + $45 shipping to your FFL (within CONUS). If you do not want the scope, I will sell the gun without scope and rings for $4750. I can accept cashier’s check/USPS Money Order or discreet Paypal (+3.5%). Please send me an IM with any questions. Thanks!
