Totally new here, and I have done a search but couldn't find anything.

Read an article that indicated that the heat from sweating on a rear sight island would cause all kinds of chaos with a button rifled barrel. Theory being that the heat would allow the displaced metal of the rifling to spring back some minute amount, causing a tight spot. In addition the barrel would then wonder when it heated up from firing multiple shots.

Any merit to this? I see many DG Rifles with button rifled barrels and sights...and the most dangerous thing my rifle may see is a lower 48 Grizzly, and the chances of that are VERY slim.

Thanks in advance.

My GS wont put heat anywhere near a button rifled barrel. A secondary recoil lug was dovetailed on, barrel band sling eye was reamed to fit and he used a super duper black German epoxy, with the front sight band being screwed and epoxied on.
For a sight island I believe he would get the fit right and then screw from undereath with epoxy.

Well, I guess that changes some things. I'll either have to go cut rifled or ditch the plans to turn it into an open sight gun. The sights were never a necessity for this gun any way.
