Snagged this on Gunbroker, nice looking wood, believe its new, one nick on the barrel, wood is perfect. I found out much to my dismay when I got it home yesterday, that the front receiver hole for the front action screw had not been tapped clear thru! Had two threads!! Consequently you could not tighten the action to the stock.
So back to my FFL guy this morning, he having the right taps 1/4-28 to do the job.
He had that done while I was making my bladder happy!
It was a nightmare getting to his place due to the various July 4th activities and after getting thru all of that I thought I was home free! Ha!! Murphy was around....
I slowed down for some rough railroad tracks and was promptly rear ended by some young ( and gorgeous!) mom with child. She apologized profusely, we exchanged info, some cops were across the street doing something else so knew what happened. They paid us little mind, just asked if all were OK and if we needed anything. No kidding though, this gal looked like actress Naomi Watts, only better!
It would have been very easy for them to right her lovelyness a nice fat ticket for rear ending me, but they didnt. Guess they were also stunned by her looks, LOL.
Back home, got the rifle back together, wiped off years (1987 make) of dried oils and lubed things that were sticky with fresh oil/grease. Slapped my nice Leupy 3.5-10x40 Var X on it and its ready to go.
If my neck is OK in the morning I should make it to the range. I did feel a little stiffness (in my neck!) when I drove a way, but overnight it might get sore, we shall see.

Enjoy the new rifle. Alway fun to add a new friend to the safe. Just don’t post any 338 load data that makes our Australian friends 35 whelen look silly. We don’t want to start any trouble in this thread. Lol

Really nice looking wood on the rifle. And of course, it's chambered in one of the finest cartridges of all time. Your going to make Bob jealous even though it's not a .243...... uh, I mean't Whelen.

Dont think we need to worry about that...

Congratulations on the new rifle in one of the best hunting rounds there is.
I‘m really disappointed that you didn’t get a pic of the woman.

I know right?!

Another feature of this rifle I really like is the safety, its one of the few that can run the bolt while on safe.

That's the reason I just parked my Tikka's in the back of the safe. Cant bring myself to off safety when load/unload a gun. Back to Remington 700, just found a BDL SS DM in 308. Not as nice looking as your new acquisition. Too bad you had to meet a sexy lady by a fender bender. Enjoy that new Remington, here's to hoping she's a shooter.

Great rifle! I’ve got almost all of the 700 Classics, my 17 Rem Classic is one of my favorite rifles. I would be lying if I wasn’t hoping for a picture of Gal too!

Had the Classic in 6.5x55 (2), 7mm Weatherby, 7x57, .300 Hollands, 257 Roberts, and now this .338 and likely a couple more I have forgotten.

Congratulations on the new rifle. And that's a hell of a way to pull a number off a girl. ;)

The wood looks like a real quality piece with nice flecking. Have you given any thought to refinishing it?

Congrats on the new addition!

Great find! Hope you aren’t too stiff;)

Nice rifle, in a great caliber, just don´t tell Bob :A Whistle:

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
