Hunted
canada usa namibia
i recently had to chance to hunt with a rifle with a suppressor in Namibia. the rifle was a savage 308 with a moose suppressor on it,

what a joy the rifle was to use super quiet and no recoil if the were legal here in canada i would have brought one home with me.

the game was not spooked as bad when a shot was made , sight pitcure was not lost in the scope . and easy on the ph ears .

i have two 308 here at home and sure notice the different in the noise the shot makes

If and when they become available on our side of the pond they will have a big market..

That for sure

i used one as well in both namibia and r.s.a. the ones that i used, didnt seem to make the rifle that quiet. why cant we use them on this side of the pond?

in the US some states allow the use of suppessors for hunting. In Louisiana we can use them for hunting hogs. I believe Idaho allows the use of suppressors for deer hunting.

There is no logical reason not to promote the use of suppressors. I own one and now thread the barrels on most rifles I have built.

If your bullet exits the barrel sub-sonic and you have a good suppressor the loudest sound is the bullet strike. Mine is quiet like a Daisy Red Rider.

If your bullet is supersonic the noise level is equivalant to a 22 rimfire.

We won't have any game left about two years later either.

note : used properly they are very effective for feral hog control here and they are available and at least in Texas legal

Mike, Amazing. For us, as Merlin said a "no go", it is a straight trip to the jailhouse to even possess one, never mind use it.

Here in Norway they are legal and very many hunters have started to use them the last years.
It saves the hunters hearing, disturbs the wildlife and the public much less and makes the hunters better shots because of the high reduction in noise and recoil.
And it has not increased the level of poaching at all:)

Local gunsmith has made quite a bit selling them, since Missouri legalized it. Problem is that they cost about $400 to build for a .22 cal, and if memory serves me correctly, think the government wants another $400 for the "tax stamp" (gotta get theirs,...... whatever).

Don't think would increase poaching all that much, cause those guys that do poach, generally don't care if they are heard or not.

I am in the manufacturing business of making suppressors in Utah and last time I recall I think 39 states aloe them and the tax stamp is $200 just as it is for a subgun a 22LR can will range in price from 270-650 depending on what you want but you get what you pay for

The part that is the killer is the paperwork and about 1year wait from the ATF but you could get lucky and have your papers back in 6 week

Just a tip, and you know me guys, always willing to help out where I can.

Before you even consider the (legal) purchase of any NFA Class III item (sub gun, full auto rifle, suppressor etc) do yourself a giant favor and do a little research on forming an NFA Trust. It is THE way to go for something like this. Take my word for it! If you need any info or detail just PM. I have a good attorney that can set them up pretty quick.

I bought an AWC Thundertrap for .30 caliber. With the tax stamp and the seller handling 95% of the paperwork it cost me $1200.00.

Thinking about shooting it tomorrow.

It aint worth the grief dealing with the Fed, and the cost is a lot since you have to renew every year if memory serves. Might be worth it for some but not to me. They just became legal in my state of Washington as well, who cares?

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.
