Road Blocks in Zimbabwe

That pretty much sums up reality.

That pretty much sums up reality.

This is actually a training video for hunters so they are not surprised when they begin their road trip.

we went through two road blocks on our trip to zim, cost me 5.00 on the first stop and our ph on the 2nd stop got nailed 10.00.

Funny but True

Reminds me of Whackhead Simpson!

The reality is not usually this bad, as much as I like the video. I’ve been stopped lots, always be polite, and never had to pay.

I guess this is why John Sharp insists on meeting his hunters at the airport and driving them personally to the BVC. He probably keeps his Rigby on his lap for the drive down!

Wonderful just wonderful. Not!!

I well remember coming back from a two week trip in Mozambique. We came out the Kosi/Ponta border post. Moz side no problems. South African side, well....

This "big mamma" made me park the cruiser in the new inspection bay under a corrugated roof. Only one vehicle fits and once one vehicle is in there no others can pass.

"I want to check" Ok no problem, I get out the cruiser go to the back, unzip the tarp, open the gate and turn around and head back to the cab. While having a ice cold coke "big mamma" returns. "I want to check!"

Go ahead was my reply, unpack check what you want, pack everything back and then stamp my gate pass. I will be in the front here until you are done. I suggest you get the other two sitting over there in the shade to help you, because nobody can pass until you are done. Thank you.

Stunned "big mamma" could only manage a "Hoa aikona!". After about 5 minutes she stamped my gate pass, I closed the back of the cruiser and drove off.

I have found driving in Zim or Moz, I always have some cheap cold sodas and cheap cigarettes in the cruiser. As soon as I get pulled over, a quick glance will show how many "officers" there are. Normally 2 with no vehicle. Before I do anything I just say "looks like you are working very hard", hand over the cold sodas and a pack of 20. Never paid a bribe yet.

Obviously the general rules need to be applied with(reflective jackets, fire extinguishers, stickers etc. etc.)

That is reality for you...
