I have posted this elsewhere but would like to share it with you all.

I recently took my family to Dubai, London, Rome and the south of Italy on a holiday.

Whilst in London, my women folk went shopping along Oxford Street and I was left to my own devices. I was heading over to gaze at the Aston Martin dealership window on Park Lane via the back streets and found myself in front of H&H. I politely asked if I could look around and was shown inside. Like many day dreamers (They must get sick of us) I was offered a Kodak moment with a rifle.

Despite looking like 'a stunned rabbit in the headlights' here is the photo.

The .375 H&H rifle was hot blacked, with an excellent piece of wood and superbly fitted. Price quoted was UK18,000 pounds. For that money I would at least expect a decent rust blue. I guess there are plenty of asset rich and time poor Arab, Russian and US buyers, happy to pay that for an off the shelf, ready to go rifle with a 地ame on the barrel.

Scope was a Swarovski.

I had previously had the opportunity to go Roe Buck stalking in Sussex and had success with a borrowed Blaser in .30-06 on a 2yo buck still in velvet. The stalk I did was through another forum member. He came Camel shooting with me last August in the Australian outback. In return he organised my chance at a Roe. Amongst all the hate and BS on some forums at the moment, this is one of the positives of the on-line hunting community.

The shot was taken over 151 yards (lasered). Entry hole of the 150 Barnes X shown.

A visit to a gunsmith in Surrey on the way home, revealed you can buy a best quality rifle 'from the trade' for about half to one third what is charged in a London shopfront, but without the name on the barrel.

Yes, a little jet lagged as well.
Yes,
No. It stayed with my guide as I had to return to my London hotel. I did get a farm size full English B'fast afterwards though :)
No

I had the chance at Muntjac or/and CWD however only the Roe is indigenous to the UK.

Thanks for posting Code4 thats a damn good way to spend a holiday. I have 7 of those little buggers hanging on the wall but never one in velvet. That would be nice.:)

Thanks for posting :)
Some years ago I had a look inside one of the "best gun" shops in London and I really felt like the poor man I am inside there.

Great that you got to shoot a Roe buck.
I love hunting Roe deer. I never grow tired of hunting them even if I have have shot lots of them.

Last weekend I signed the lease for 2 places I will hunt Roe deer in Sweden.
There are lots of Roe deer both places.
I am really looking forward to when the season opens August 16 :)

Code 4 this will make you laugh. the first time i went to holland and holland was way back in 1989. a friend of my brothers had a .416 rigby built by paul roberts who owned rigbys in those days, and wanted to use it, so paul booked him a 30 day hunt with luke samaras safaris in the selous. he asked my brother to go with him, but he wasnt too sure as he hadnt done much shooting. he mentioned it to me and i said "you can hunt in africa!!! i will go" so that was sorted i was going to hunt and my brother was going to be my observer. i didnt have a big calibre so went to see paul and he had a brno he had chambered to .416 rigby . it was a basic rifle he used to keep one of on the shelf in case someone wanted a cheapish working rifle. so with my .308win steyr ssg sniper rifle i was sorted gunwise. i asked paul what do you wear on safari and he said go to holland and holland and they will sort you out. now what you must picture here is that i probably didnt look like the average h&h client especially in the 1980`s!!! we had a night club in jersey and 3 of my friends also had night clubs so big party time, also in london .....so it was long hair , avirex leather flying jacket, jeans and cowboy boots....as i entered the then clothing dept downstairs at h&h the young male salesman with short hair a check sports jacket , trousers and brogue shoes on gave me a very long once up and down and ignored me. i had a look around and eventually managed to get his attention where he looked at me with serious disdain down his nose. he asked what i wanted so i said i was going to africa to do a hunt and had been told to come here to get some clothes. he asked what clothing i wanted, so i said i dont know thats why i am here to see you.!! i was getting how shall we say pissed off and the steam was rising with his attitude... his reply to me was sir we dont have anything here for you, i suggest you go to millets (a high street outdoor shop chain which isnt too bad now, but then was crap) . i didnt know if i had heard correctly , so said excuse me , so he repeated it. i now had a serious sense of humour failure , and made a comment but had to leave very rapidly before i did something to him of a rearrangement nature!! i went back to pauls who asked how i got on. when he heard he phoned the MD of h&h and told him he had sent a client of his over to get some clothes, who had just bought a rifle and was doing a 30 day hunt in tanzania, the MD said oh no i know exactly who you are talking about we have had similar with him before...i believe he had to find something else to do soon after. sorry it was a bit long winded but i had forgotten till i read your post....:)

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
