Hunting reports

Last week i started driving from west Germany, to one of Marius his hunting area for reddeer in Romania.
It was my worst ride from all my trips, rain, many traffic and many accidents, but i made it!
I arrived around 2 o clock pm, i called Marius that i was in the hotel, he asked if i wanne go out in the evening, off course my answer was yes.
At 5 pm, Marius his ranger and his son arrived at the hotel to pick me up.
We drove to the hills, a long way into the forrest, his son dropped us off and it was a small walk to the highseat.
Not long after we where sitting in the highseat, our thermals, spotted some activity, but far away, a group off 12 reddeer and a group of 3 reddeer, the 3 reddeer where all to young.
Then my thermal spotted something about 100mtr, from the highseat, a quick look with the binoculars, and i could see it was a redstag, he showed only his head, and dissapear again, its was a very nice one.
Marius his ranger Cosmin starts then calling the redstags, we get some responce but far away. Soon it was getting to dark and we went back to the hotel.
The next morning Cosmin picked me up again, but now 5 am, we drove again to the hills, the plan was to listen to the roaring and then stalk to it.
The moment we get out of the car we heard one close by our car, i picked the shooting sticks and we walk in the direction off the roaring. We soon arrived to a little open space next to a litlle forrest, in this forrest the stag was roaring, we take position, and i prepared the shooting stick. The thing was it was still to dark. The roaring of the stag was answered by other stags, and one off the other stags was coming closer by, with his females along, and it was still to dark, to see the rifle scope. Then anther sound pops up, the sound of an engine off a car, the car came closer and we could hear voices, it passed us exactly where the second redstag was, the car drove further into the forrest, because of the wind we could hear them wenn they stopped driving. It where forrest workers, they where cutting some three under the powerlines we later found out. The roaring was directly over, i it was getting light but i thought the morning was over because off the workers.
We decided to wait a few minutes, and after 10 minutes a redstag showed up, for the side where the workers had past, it was on the end of the open space, but walking to us.
The light was enough for the rifle scope, and Cosmin give the green light for this stag, i had to wait till it was in a good position to give a shot, and it finally did, the stag dropped on the spot, but get up and dissapear in the cover, we waited a few minutes, and went looking for it, it was 10 mtr inside the cover, dead. So my first stag of this trip was a fact! We where both extremely happy. Cosmin told me that a storm was on the way, this day, and the weather would change from good to very bad.

In the evening rain and wind, we where one the side of a extremely storm, wo had caused many deads and problems in the center of Europe, and it would stay for a few days.
We where at the swamp, with a forrest closed by, but that evening, we saw some females, but the wind and rain didn’t do any good.
The next days we would hang around this swamp/forrest, ther was some activity there, but every day rain and rain.
Marius and another hunter had join us, and we split up in 2 teams.
Every day, in the morning and evening there was activity but not on the spot we chosen. Till one evening, Cosmin decided to take position in the midlle off the swamp, so we did, and soon there was activity all around us, and even the rain did stop, we saw some nice stags with females, all to far and walking from us. Even a very beautiful stag diced to walk from us, bus close for it was getting dark, he walks back to us with a female and here calf, the adrenaline was pumping, on 200 mtr they disappeared in the cover, Cosmin now the terrain, and said is its a small cover, they will come out on the otherside, so we changed position to the other side and he was right, first the female with here calf and then the stag followed, walking in our direction. When it was close enough, he was also in a good position to shoot. The bullet left, it was a hit, but he ran with the female and her calf, but after 80 mtr it dropped and my second stag was a fact.
We took some pics and loaded the stag in the pickup, and then went back to the hotel.

So i wanne thank Marius and his rangers again, for this very good hunt.
Even with a big storm they where able to present some nice stags.
On the way back home i saw the damage the storm did in Central Europe.

Here the link to youtube, the son off Cosmin made a video of the stag and the female with here calf walking to us after leaving the cover, the video is made with a phonecell thrue an binocular!

Nice red stags! Congrats. Looks like you did very well despite the weather turning on you. Love the video of your stag approaching. Thanks for the report and the pics.
