Need an optic for a DS Arms FAL in .308. Use will be primarily for pigs and targets. Ideas?

Does it have a rail on it already? If not, the British Army's Trilux SUIT was considered a pretty good 4x scope. Doesn't have a typical crosshairs or reticle, though; uses a single vertical post pointing downward at the target rather than upward. Less target obstruction that way, I think was their reasoning.

Elcan?

Something fairly compact and light. The DSA rail mounting systems are adequate, but not as stable as conventional mounts. And the FAL is a heavy beast already.

Mount as low as possible since the stock set-up puts your head position low for the iron sights. They were designed for a low head position to avoid those nasty head wounds from incoming rounds, btw.

All great advice - thank you. I have the DS Arms rail system.

ACOG

In that case, forget the SUIT (they apparently had some issues holding zero but it was a combat rifleman's scope before that caught on). If you wanna stick that route, you could do worse than a Trijicon ACOG but you may prefer a more conventional scope. Accumounts has a reproduction of the Russian PE/PEM scope used with the Mosin-Nagant M91/30; basic 3.5x three-post-German reticle that I'm being told isn't bad for what it is. But there are so many scopes out there that might suit you, and I have a thing for the retro stuff!

And don't be afraid to mill off some of the rear lugs from the rail if you need to for rear bell clearance.
This was done using a Radial Arm Saw with standard wood blade. And I still have all my fingers despite the Wiley E Coyote School of Gunsmithing method. :)

This is a VXR 3-9, but I there is better glass out there.

As a side note, you don't want a scope with a target type windage turret that sticks out over the ejection port. The FAL ejects brass in a manner that will beat it to death. (amhik)

Chopped up the whole thing as I kept hitting the 240 character limit...
Found out the trigger word in the end... It was muzzle or velocity. dropped them and it posted.:)

2,822fps, ES 8.2
This compares favorably to 7 Rem Mag. with less powder & recoil.

*PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS FOR MY RIFLE, ALWAYS APPROACH A NEW LOAD CAUTIOUSLY!!*
Rifle is a Pierce long action, 32" 1:8.5 twist Swan{Au} barrel
{You will want a 1:8.5 to run the heavies but can get away with a 1:9}
Peterson .280AI brass, CCI 200 primers, 56.5gr of 4831SC, 184gr Berger Hybrid.

I know that this thread is more than a year old but as a new member I thought I would pass along my .280AI loading.
I am shooting F Open long range rather than hunting but here is what is working for me and I have managed a 198.14 at 800 meters.
That is for 20 shots. The 14 are X's which is a 5" circle.
