I wasn't sure where to put this one... Mods please move if there is a better spot.
I have a sporterized 6.5 Jap. I got it for a couple hundred bucks on GunBroker, while putzing around over lunch at work one day. IMHO it was done very nicely. The stock looks good. It seems to shoot well, with iron sights, but I wanted a scope on it. It's not a high priority project, so nothing's been done. I thought about lugging it to ANC to have it drilled and tapped. I looked around for a while for that jig that used to be made, to try it myself. And then, two weeks ago, I found a mount on eBay. It was 35ish dollars so I decided to give it a try.
Well, I am impressed. It attaches very solidly. I had to removed the ladder sight, and then it bolts in place using existing holes, and it's machined to fit the slot. Now all I need is a good extended eye relief scope. (for the moment, to be able to just play at the range, I have an older, long bodied Weaver mounted to it)
My question to you good folks who know a lot more about the history of firearms... what's the story on this scope mount. It has some very faint letters stamped on the side, so I believe it's a factory produced item and not a one-off by some dedicated machinist. I'd love to know more about it if anyone has any information.
