Scout scope on BRNO 602

Thinking of mounting a Vortex Crossfire II 2-7x32 on my .375H&H for driven boar and deer.

Can anyone think of a reason why this may not be such a good idea.

My budget for a rifle that is not used very often is a major consideration.

You may want to consider a scope with an eye relief that is not 9.45 inches for mounting in a traditional manner above the magazine.
If you do mount this scope, to get your head in the correct position to see the target it would be at the very back of the stock.
Either that or the scope would require a special mount to adapt to your action which increases your cost.
This would also put the scope cantilevered out from the action and therefore more subject to getting knocked around (ie loss of zero).
Not the best plan for a rifle being used for hunting.
Option 1 - Sell the scout scope and buy a low power scope in your price range with an eye relief in the 3 - 4 inch range.
Option 2 - Take the scope off and see how it shoots with irons, although not ideal it would be the most cost effective option.
Option 3 - Mount a new scope with QD rings to have the best of both worlds (yes, it's the most expensive option).
Option 4 - Give the scout scope a try.

I would go with 1, 2 or 3.

Found an old Pecar Berlin 4-10 which I thought I had got rid of. This gives me a shade under 3" eye relief so will try it an see. owes me nought.

Ugh - sub-3-inches of eye-relief on a .375 is asking for an injury - particularly if swinging on a game animal.

If you are using this on driven boar and deer, you may want to consider just using open sights.
Even at 4x you may not have the field of view you need to see the game coming.

I agree with Red Leg about using a scope with less than 3 inches of eye relief, it's a good way to end up with a scope cut.

i had one of those pecars on a 270 for a very short time.
eye relief was even insufficient for that ammount of recoil.

You would need about 4 inches eye relief for a 375......

I am struggling with open sights these days hence the exercise. Having to use reading glasses to see v and post clearly and have the target blurred. OK for playing with paper at range.

Will bin the pecar and scout scope idea and look out for a good 2nd hand 1-4x24 type scope.

I had similar experience with a Pecar 3-7x, that I briefly used.

You could try a peep sight.
